“He was suffering from bruised front feet and he was a bit fresh – I hadn’t been able to get the pace work into him.
“He’s been 100 percent this week and he’s in a better frame of mind. I’m much happier with him going into this race and he’s proved he can carry weight.”
Guy believes the presence of the Gary Vile-trained Miss Appleton (NZ) (Align) could also be vital to Tomorrowland’s chances.

A trouble free week with Tomorrowland (nZ) (Fast ‘n’ Famous) has Danica Guy upbeat about her quality sprinter’s prospects of another successful visit to the
central districts. The Listed Levin Stakes winner will look to put a lack-lustre
last-start performance behind him when he tackles Saturday’s Gr.2 Kamada Park Manawatu Challenge Stakes at Awapuni.
Tomorrowland tailed the field home in the Listed J Swap Sprint, but Guy said the horse had overcome issues that brought about his downfall at Te Rapa.

Another runner looking to put a last-start defeat behind him is Kawi (NZ) (Savabeel) after he got back in a slowly run Gr.1 Captain Cook Stakes and was unable to make an impression in the straight.
Johnathon Parkes, who formed a successful partnership

with the gelding prior to an untimely suspension, will be reunited at Awapuni with Kawi.
The Wanganui-based jockey has ridden the Savabeel five-year-old six times for three wins, including the Gr.3 Taranaki Cup and the Listed Anniversary Handicap. They were also Group One placed in the Easter Handicap.

Well travelled mare Salford Art appeals as a top prospect for Saturday’s Gr. 3 Hotel Coachman Manawatu Cup
She made A$160,000 and was bought by New South Wales breeders Francis and Christine Cook, who were part of the syndicate that had raced the mare from Waller’s stable.
Salford Art was transferred to Cambridge trainer Tony Pike, in part so she could be served by Sacred Falls (NZ) (O’Reilly) and also with the aim of gaining some black type before retirement.
The seven-year-old is in foal to Sacred Falls and should go close to becoming a black type performer in the Gr.3 Hotel Coachman Manawatu Cup (2300m), following three good runs in New Zealand.
She finished fifth - behind Vavasour (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice), Farm Boy (NZ) (El Hermano), Authentic Paddy (NZ) (Howbaddouwantit) and Consensus (NZ) (Postponed) - in a 16-horse field in the Counties Cup (2100m) at Avondale last month and then won a rating 85 2200m at Ellerslie on December 5.
“It wasn’t a strong field at Ellerslie, but she got the win and she wasn’t far away at Avondale,” Pike said. “She was closing well at the line at Avondale and the step up to 2300m [this weekend] will suit her. She’s a grinding staying mare.
Leading Manawatu Cup contender salford art (Sir Percy) is almost as familiar with the sales ring as she is with a racecourse.
The Irish-bred mare has been offered for sale in three different countries and changed hands four times.
She was sold as a foal and again as a yearling and has twice been sold as a tried horse.
The Sir Percy mare was bred by prominent Irish breeder and administrator Eimear Mulhern, who is chairman of the Irish sales company Goffs.
Mulhern sold Salford Art as a foal in 2009 and the filly was resold as a yearling a year later, when bought by successful English trainer David Elsworth.
Salford Art was competitive in Group company as a two and three-year-old in England, but was offered for sale again at the end of her three-year-old season.
Sydney trainer Chris Waller paid 110,000 guineas for the filly at the 2012 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale.
Salford Art won three midweek metropolitan races in Sydney before being offered for sale again, at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last May.
“She was a bit disappointing in Australia, but has enjoyed the change of environment here and is a happy horse.
“Mares often seem to improve when they first get in foal and she has drawn well this week and is on the minimum.
“Authentic Paddy is clearly the best horse in the race but he has 61kg and that is a big ask.”

Saturday’s Hirepool 1600 at Te Rapa will serve as a trial for Boxing Day’s Gr.1 Zabeel Classic
for at least two runners in the race.Cambridge trainer Lee Somervell
will use the race as an important Zabeel Classic conditioner for Group One winner addictive Habit (nZ) (Colombia), despite the Livamol Classic winner having been lumbered with 65kg, while the Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards-trained silverdale (nZ) (Castledale) and the Moira Murdoch-trained survived (nZ) (Zed) will seek
to enhance their claims for the Ellerslie weight-for-age feature.
“The Zabeel Classic is shaping as an exceptional race this year so you are going to have to be right on top of your game to win it,” Somervell said.
“My bloke has done really well since Riccarton. I was going to take him to the trials at Te Aroha on Tuesday, but he’s more than eight kilos over his racing weight so he needed more than a 1200m open heat at the trials.
“He’s not going there for an exhibition gallop. He needs a good hit

out and I’m sure that’s what he’ll get.”Addictive Habit hasn’t raced since
winning the Gr.2 Coupland’s Bakeries Mile at Riccarton on November 12 and though Somervell admits the 65kg impost nearly put him off starting this weekend, he is relying on the Te Rapa race to get the Colombia gelding into peak trim for the Zabeel Classic.
“I almost wasn’t going to run, but he definitely needs to race,” Somervell said.
“I’m delighted to have [apprentice] Viktoria Gatu on to give him those

three kilos off. The 62 kilos won’t worry him, but the lightweight horses get a huge advantage so it does make the race hugely hard to win.”
Back to weight-for-age conditions and with Sam Spratt booked for the Zabeel Classic, Somervell expects that race to suit Addictive Habit much more.
Waiuku’s Moira Murdoch is hoping Group One winner Survived can make his presence felt in Saturday’s race and in the Zabeel Classic, a race in which he finished eighth in 2013.
“I just wanted to give him another
run over a mile, just to make sure he’s as fit as I can get him for the Zabeel Classic,” Murdoch said.
“He’s extra well and if there’s a good fast pace and the track is good, he’ll be right there.”
Autridge said he would use the Hirepool 1600 as a guide for Silverdale’s next start at Ellerslie over the Christmas carnival.
“There’s a good chance he’ll run in the Zabeel Classic, but I’ll just see how he runs and make a plan from there, whether it’s the Zabeel Classic or the
Rich Hill Mile,” Autridge said.“He seems to be going as well, if not
better, than ever. He’ll run home really well and be competitive and I think Grant Cooksley will suit him down to the ground.”
The Zabeel Classic is set to attract a quality line-up, including Kawi (NZ) (Savabeel), Soriano (NZ) (Savabeel), Stolen Dance (NZ) (Alamosa), Shuka (NZ) (Bachelor Duke), Pondarosa Miss (NZ) (High Chaparral) and King Krovanh (Fastnet Rock) for the final Group One race of the year.

When it comes to the cut-throat business of jockeys chasing better rides, Chris
Waller insists there is no difference between Sydney and Hong Kong.
Back in town after overseeing the unsuccessful Hong Kong Vase campaign of Preferment (NZ) (Zabeel), Waller will rely mostly on two young ex-kiwi jockeys to do the stable’s riding at Rosehill on Saturday.
In Jason Collett, Waller is calling on a jockey who confirmed he is making inroads when he rode three winners and a dead-heater at Randwick last week.
Yet even with the backing of Waller it has taken Collett time to gain a foothold and the trainer says the young rider still has a lot more to do to consolidate his new-found popularity with owners.
It’s the same with stable apprentice Rory Hutchings who has four Rosehill rides for his boss and is gradually settling into Sydney racing after a slow start since arriving as New Zealand’s champion junior rider.
“Rory is starting to get noticed,” Waller said.
“Sydney’s like Hong Kong. Don’t
Wondering made an immediate impression winning over 1350m at Rosehill in August.
It took the five-year-old’s record to five wins from nine starts and Waller has no doubt there is more to come.
“He was coming out of moderate form races in New Zealand, but he’s just one of those horses which has really adapted to Sydney and Sydney racing,” Waller said.
“I think he can get to Group Three level but beyond that it’s always a bit unknown.”

The Matamata trainer confirmed the Boxing Day feature as the filly’s next start following her home track victory on Wednesday.

Role Model won twice in New Zealand and was second in the Group Two Wellington Guineas and Group Two Matamata Breeders Stakes.
Since joining Waterhouse, the now five-year-old has been consistent and was considered good enough to run in the 2014 Australian Oaks where was well beaten.
“She is a well-bred mare and we are keen to get a black-type win beside her name,” stable representative Mark Newnham said.
“She isn’t eligible for the Magic Millions and there aren’t that many black-type races around for mares over 1600 metres at the moment.”

The first Group One winner for her sire Alamosa, she was troubled by a number of injury setbacks following her 2014 Flemington victory, and ends her racing career as the winner of four of her 18 starts and more than $930,000 in stakes earnings.
“We leased her out and took a minor share of the racing lease and she proved to be a top mare and a great advertisement for Alamosa,” Wellfield Lodge director Bill Gleeson said.
“She has been sold to a major Japanese stud and our understanding is that she will be served by Deep Impact.”
Wellfield raced Kirramosa with major share-holders John and Glenda Reilly, of Matamata, and trainer John Sargent.
