WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU GET HERE

HELLO AND WELCOME!First off, congratulations on getting a place at Warwick – you’re in for the best few years of your life! Here at Warwick Students’ Union, we aim to help shape your life as a student - maybe even transform it. We have a great line-up of events to help you settle in and make you feel at home - with fantastic food outlets such as The Dirty Duck, Curiositea, The Bread Oven and our restaurant, Xananas, there’s something to keep everyone fed, watered and entertained right from day one.

But Warwick Students’ Union is so much more than just a social hub – everything we provide, we do so for you, our members. YOU direct our Entertainments line-up, YOU shape policy, YOU decide who runs your Union. The opportunities for involvement are endless, and over these first few weeks we showcase all that we offer. Make sure you try everything at least once, and enjoy every second of your Freshers experience - it’ll be over before you know it!

YOUR OFFICER TEAMThese guys have been elected to work full-time to ensure the Union is run by students, for students. Each Sabbatical Officer (or ‘Sabbs’, as they are known) is responsible for a different area of the Union.

IMPROVINGIMPROVINGWWW.WARWICKSU.COM/HAVEYOURSAY

Unlike most organisations, Warwick SU is run by its own customers: you, the students. That means that if there is something you don’t like about how the SU is operating, it is up to you to change it. If you have any ideas,

thoughts or feedback on how the SU can change to make students’ lives at Warwick better, then we want to know. So, if we don’t have your favourite

sandwich filling in The Bread Oven, you want to hear more Nu-Folk Ravestep in The CopperRooms or you think The Terrace Bar needs a certain cocktail, we need you to get in touch. You can have your say in various ways:

BY EMAIL - [email protected]

ONLINE - fill in the form at WWW.WARWICKSU.COM/HAVEYOURSAY

BY PAPER - fill in a paper form in any outlet

IN PERSON - drop in and talk to one of the Sabbatical Officers

There will be some things that we can’t do. In order to provide our incredible range of clubsand societies, keep the Student Advice Centre running and employ all our staff there’s simply no way we can, for example, charge £1 for your favourite pint! We have to be realistic and there will be some suggestions we simply can’t take forward. When this happens though we’ll let you know and we promise to be honest with you. It’s your Union, after all!

FAQSFAQSRight now there are probably a million and one questions going through your minds, so we’ve put together a quick FAQ page. For all other questions, email [email protected] or phone 024 765 72777.

WHAT IS THE STUDENTS’ UNION?? We’re a charity which exists solely to provide services to our members - from advice, representation and employability to food and drink. We’re completely separate from the University and don’t make a profit; every penny you spend here is reinvested for your benefit.

WHERE DO I COLLECT MY KEYS?It depends which accommodation you’re in. Each hall is signposted as you arrive and you pick up your keys nearby – if in doubt, ask a Freshers Helper.

WHERE DO I GET MY UNIVERSITY CARD?Rootes Building – that’s the big white building next to Warwick SU across the Piazza.

WILL I MAKE ANY FRIENDS?YES! Everyone is scared about this before coming to University but trust us, you’ll be fine. If you have ANY concerns then speak to someone in the Student Advice Centre or chat to the Sabbatical Officers.

WHERE’S THE BEST PLACE TO GET A COFFEE?Curiositea or Xananas. Fact.

WHICH IS THE BEST NIGHT TO GO OUT ON CAMPUS?Depends on your music taste! We strongly recommend that you try everything at least once – it’s the only way you’ll be sure to find your favourite.

WHERE DO I GO TO CHANGE ACCOMMODATION?The University has some provision for this, but you normally have to wait a couple of weeks. Ask at Student Reception to find out more.

HOW DO I LEARN MY WAY AROUND?It’ll take a while, but you’ll be surprised how quickly you pick things up. Don’t be afraid to ask, and you can find maps on the University’s website.

WHAT IF I CAN’T COOK?Warwick SU’s got heaps of outlets to stop you going hungry no matter what your budget. Remember, all the money you spend in our outlets is directly reinvested into services for students!
