High Bridge Festival

Background

The iconic High Bridge was first constructed in 1848 where it was

utilized as a water aqueduct to bring clean water to the residents ofNew York City. It also served as a popular social gathering area for

both tourists and residents connecting Manhattan and the Bronx. In

1926, the bridge ceased as an aqueduct and in the 1970s the

walkway was closed to the public.

Due to the relentless efforts of community patrons, nonprofits and

elected officials, the High Bridge will reopen this summer,

connecting these two boroughs and offering easy access to

residents to enjoy amenities from both sides of the Harlem River.

On Saturday July 25th, in collaboration with Partnerships for

Parks and community members, NYC Parks is thrilled to be

hosting a celebratory festival commemorating this milestone

and reconnecting these two boroughs!

We expect thousands of attendees to participate in a wide

range of outdoor activities as well as enjoy a free

SummerStage concert featuring musician Jose Pea Suazo y

La Banda Gorda, presented by the City Parks Foundation.
