DIRECTIONS
1. Choose 3 patterned/color strips, and 4 solid white strips. Sew together down the long edge, right sides facing each other,
white-color-white-color-white-color-white. Press open after each seam, toward the colored fabric.
Baby: Make 4 strip sets
Throw: make 8 strip sets
Queen: make 14 strip sets
King: make 18 strip sets
2. Carefully rotary or hand cut the straight selvedge edge off of your strip sets. Starting with your freshly trimmed edge, cut a block every
10.5". Each set will yield 4 blocks. Each block should look like this:
NOTE: Before cutting, measure your strip sets to make sure they are over 42” long not including the selvage. Some companies sell strips that may be shorter than 42”
(Joann fabrics, other craft fabric companies) If your strip set is only 40” wide, adjust down to 10” blocks. This will affect the width of your finished quilt by a few
inches.
Baby: Cut 16 blocks
Throw: Cut 30 blocks
Queen: Cut 56 blocks
King: Cut 72 blocks
3. Make each vertical segment of your top.
First, lay out all your blocks and arrange them before you go on to the next step! Make sure you don't put two like blocks next to or directly
above each other.
There are no "tops and bottoms" so you can also flip your blocks around 180 degrees if something doesn't look right during the
arranging process!
Tip: take a picture of your layout with a digital camera, webcam or phone so you can remember how you arranged them! This is a
lifesaver.
Baby: Make 4 columns of 4 blocks each
Throw: Make 6 columns of 5 blocks each
Queen: Make 8 columns of 7 blocks each
King: Make 9 columns of 8 blocks each
8. Using the remaining white strips, sew together pairs on the short
side to make long white strips.
Baby: make 5 long strips out of 2 white strips each
Throw: make 7 long strips out of 2 white strips
each
Queen: make 9 long strips out of 3 white strips each
King: make 10 long strips out of 3 white strips
each
9. Connect each of your vertical block segments with a long white strip separating each column.
10. Finish your quilt top by adding on the last two long white strips to the outer left and right edges of your top. Trim the excess white strip
fabric to perfect the edges.
