‘Imagine, invent and inspire to explore the wonderful world of magic and logic’ Students of class X accompanied by Science faculty

Ms. Shweta Narang visited Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced

Technology (RRCAT) on the occasion of National Science Day on

February 27, 2016. Students witnessed the scientific and technical

activities of the centre at about 80 exhibits kept in 15 different

laboratories. The scientific contributions of Prof. C.V. Raman and other

scientists were elaborated to the students along with an overview of

Laser and Accelerator activities including several applications. Students

were explained several complex aspects of science and technology and

encouraged to have a career in scientific research.

Science

To prove that air supports burning and the presence of

air in soil, class VI students performed two

experiments. In the first experiment students covered

the burning candle with a glass jar which extinguished

the candle proving that oxygen supports burning. In the

other experiment fizz was created when the students

poured water on the dry lump of soil proving the

presence of air in soil.

English To enhance learning in class VII, the poem „Muddlehead‟ was taught as an

activity in which the children dressed up and acted as a Muddlehead while

the others read the poem. This activity made the poem easy to understand

and was enjoyed by the students. As a post activity, the students in groups

had to share any funny incident and prepare a collage of the pictures that

bring a smile. The creative ones even brought the props with them to

heighten the effect.

Mathematics

To understand the concept of transforming 2D shapes into 3D

shapes, students of class IX transformed a rectangular sheet into

a cylinder and a semi-circular sheet into a cone. They also

measured the dimensions of the rectangular and semi-circular

sheets and derived the dimensions of the cylinder and cone. The

breadth and length of the rectangular sheet became height and

circumference of the cylinder respectively.

Social Science

A symposium was conducted on „Consumer Rights‟ for the

students of class X to understand the rights and duties of

consumers. Students eloquently presented facts, thoughts and

ideas on the topic. The research and the valuable information in

the session enhanced the knowledge, reasoning and analogy of

the students.

ICT

Various video clips were designed by class VII to X students with the

help of different software. Using FLASH software, class VII students

designed Solar System whereas class IX students designed clips on

Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan, Drive Safe and Save Environment. Using

PHOTOSHOP software and different tools, class VIII students designed

Link Book cover pages for the school. Class X students designed

various games in SCRATCH software using different controls and

modules of scratch.

Key to Good Health

Yesterday, I visited a Gym with my Dad where I saw

the instructors telling the importance of exercising

in gym with technical machinery so as to make 21st

century people fit and healthy. I suddenly

remembered my school‟s class assembly

presentation about Yoga. I realized all those Gym

exercises were just like prose whereas yoga is the

poetry of movement. Out of curiosity, I went on to

compare the two important tools for fitness- modern

Gyms and ancient Yoga. To my surprise, Yoga dated

back to the time of Vedas, which has such strong

effect on the humans, that they can even control

their breath. I found that Yoga has long term

benefits rather than monthly package of Gym. Yoga

is said to be the artwork of awareness on the canvas

of body, mind and soul. I have decided to do Yoga

regularly to maintain a balanced attitude in day to

day life along with the development of skills in the

performance of my actions. I will also encourage my

friends to avail the long term benefits of Yoga for

healthy future.

Shambhavi Manjrekar, VI A

Yoga- A Way to Healthy Life Actually speaking, „Yog‟ in its totality means to add

or to join. It is that subtle way of life exercise that

joins a healthy body to a healthy mind and focuses

not only on one‟s physical well-being but also on

one‟s mental and emotional well-being. The word

discipline has complicated connotations with

different people. According to me, Yoga is a

disciplined life which teaches a person to wake up

early, sleep early, eat simple unprocessed food,

breathe deeply, keep correct posture and meditate

to lead a de-stressed, honest and truthful life. It is as

simple as that, but since, we have made our life so

complicated that we find this simple way of life

called „Yoga‟ as a complicated, rigorous exercise

form. The magic of Yoga keeps diseases at bay, paves

our way to spirituality and keeps our body supple,

flexible and healthy. Infact, we are proud to say that

it has taken birth in India. Presently, what we are

importing, are new researches on the benefits of

Yoga. Encapsulated with so many benefits, it‟s really

something great..! In the wake of new researches to

reminisce our glorious past, let‟s make this simple

way of exercise our way to healthy life and believe

me it‟s not that hard…

Importance of Meditation

In today‟s stressful life, there is no time to stand and stare as everybody is rushing to achieve his goal,

forgetting that the ultimate goal is to achieve the peace of mind. Since ancient times, meditation has

been playing an effective role to attain peace. It can be described as a mental attention and training

that can awaken the mind and reveal the nature of reality. Everyone is aware of benefits of meditation

but rarely practices it. Meditation fills us with great energy and enthusiasm because of its healing,

spiritual and therapeutic qualities. When we pray we talk to God but meditation makes us listen to God.

That‟s why meditation is called as a bridge to communicate with God. It is like diving deep into oneself

beyond thoughts and pure consciousness so as to introspect one‟s soul. In this high tech life, the need is

to sow the seeds of meditation and reap the fruits in the form of peace of mind.

Spreading Peace

Living in peace is about living harmoniously with

yourself, others and all sentient beings around you.

There are some basic belief in peace as being non-

violent, being tolerant, holding moderate views and

celebrating wondrous life. Living in peace is a way of

life in which we respect and love each other in spite

of culture, religious and political indifferences. India

is perfect example of above and we are proud to be

born in a country which symbolizes peace, prosperity

and non-violence. Gandhiji said that power based on

law & peace is thousand times more effective &

permanent than the power gained through

punishment. Positive frame of mind & tolerance can

bring world closer. An individual should find inner

peace & share experiences to society. Let us all live

harmoniously & spread peace all around.

Mr. Kailash Bagzai Father of Tanisha Bagzai, Senior Montessori G

Peace

“Peace Begins With a Smile” - Mother Teresa

Peace is a very important part of today‟s life. It is necessary to attain peace everywhere in world. As small kids, we should learn to keep peace with our own self so that we can focus on our studies and when we grow up we become a good person in our life and spread peace and happiness everywhere we go. By doing this, we can create a beautiful and peaceful world to live in. Ayan Dagaonkar, II A

Peace of Mind When we talk about peace, the question arises as to what peace is all about. Many feel it is the absence of war and hatred. But in my opinion it is the presence of cooperation and compassion amongst the people living in the society as a whole. Peace can be promoted through many ways but the best way is to promote it within ourselves. Inner peace or peace of mind refers to a state of being mentally and spiritually at peace, with enough knowledge and understanding to keep oneself strong in the face of discord or stress. World Peace is merely an unsolved puzzle waiting for loving people to put the "pieces" together. Through love, World Peace not only becomes possible, peace becomes probable. The benefits of working together to create peace for all, will be reduced poverty, crime, war, hate, injustice, pollution, etc. The true benefit is living in a world where love, care and empathy become the standard in this beautiful planet. Ms. Neetu Soni Faculty, Class II

Peace as a Catalyst Today, the world is shrinking rapidly. Efficient means of transport and communication have brought people with different thoughts and desires together. With such diverse populations coming together for their day to day activities, the one thing that is necessary for them to grow and prosper together is peace. Peace essentially is a catalyst in the development of the environment for everyone to grow. This is the reason why diplomacy has been chosen over wars and guns. It saves a lot of lives and resources and enables us to explore new avenues as we walk the path to a

developed world.

Ms. Monika Rajani Faculty, Senior Montessori

Internal Peace

Peace for me is internal peace. If you are at peace internally then you can achieve all your small as well as big goals. Being a mother of a seven year old, I have to be peaceful at heart and mind otherwise my son instantly finds out and say- “mamma is something wrong with you?” All the parents should behave peacefully and calmly while interacting with their kids because they are totally our responsibility. We brought them in this

beautiful world and they are God‟s best creation for us.
