Design assessments that involve observations, memory, technical questions and teamwork criteria.

Achievements: Managing Change – A major cultural change initiative was implemented in recent years. Part of it

was to achieve greater cost efficiency which translated into fewer resources and additional training outcomes. Consulted with many members to rethink and redesign the training plan to achieve these goals. Created a communication plan to explain the changes to the department in an appropriate and applicable manner without overwhelming the staff. Although this period required creativity and overtime, the training outcomes produced improved and reduced budgets were achieved.

Performance Reviews – In my 2011 performance review, my supervisor commented, “Matthew’s consistent presence has encouraged the impressive results for the sections he has mentored. His leadership has been effective, notably he has been able to take on a variety of different roles with ease and produce very good results.”

Training Outcomes – In 2009, after a demanding period, my supervisor commented, “Matthew is a confident senior manager who displays very strong instructional skills and operational knowledge, and an aptitude to enhance the skills and knowledge of his trainees. He identifies shortfalls in training and produces workable solutions to problems to improve and develop the quality of the section.”

Project Coordination – Coordinated a project to redesign and construct a training facility to make better use of resources and to better prepare for the changing roles of the military. Managed the team to construct the new facility with only three weeks before it was scheduled for use. Although some members resisted the changes, they were able to fully endorse it due to its vast improvements to the training outcomes of the sections for which they were accountable.

January 2006 – January 2008Operations Manager, Department of Defence (Army), Palmerston, NT Position Role: Led a team to ensure operational availability of vehicles used in intelligence gathering exercises in

support of national and international projects.Responsibilities: Managed the maintenance, servicing and repair of a suite of 26 light armoured vehicles and

associated weapons systems. Forecasted, coordinated and allocated jobs based on operational and project needs, to achieve minimal downtime. Supervised work to ensure regulatory compliance and safe work practices.

Maintained an inventory of stores and equipment to ensure the team was both physically and logistically able to fulfil the requirements of any exercise. Worked within a sophisticated logistics management system to audit, procure and monitor stock. Managed non-technical inspections and fulfilled reporting requirements for senior management.

Achievements: International Projects – In 2007, successfully led a team of vehicle specialists to perform in Iraq for

eight months. This was during a period of intense hostility in the region. Managed the operation and maintenance of a large fleet of vehicles in an environment with unreliable suppliers and a lack of resources. Allocated and managed the movements of the team to ensure safe and effective operational outcomes for all staff. Worked extended hours in extreme climates and with little family contact for the duration of the project. Many staff struggled with the demands so maintaining morale and productivity was a primary focus.

High Profile Roles – In 2006, was selected to represent Australia on a six month exchange program with the Ministry of Defence in the UK. Was able to gain and share diverse methods to enhance performance in both organisations. Represented the organisation to the highest standard and returned to Australia with positive feedback by all British counterparts including, “Matthew is a gregarious, outgoing and friendly member. He is very professional and extremely diligent in all aspects of his work. His can-do attitude saw him fit seamlessly into his new environment and is a testament to his flexibility and adaptability. Previous Employment2002 – 2006 – Instructor, School of Armour, Department of Defence (Army) Delivered initial training to large groups in either field based or classroom environments. Managed

courses up to six weeks in duration to deliver all requisite vehicle, weapons and field craft expertise. Managed administrative functions of the training program to ensure all trainees had the relevant qualifications, career plans and physical health requirements for their role. 1990 – 2002 – Cavalryman, Department of Defence (Army) Completed considerable training to operate and maintain specialist vehicles in support of

organisational projects. Operated armoured and mobility vehicles valued up to $2.5M each, in difficult terrain, by day and night. In 1999, led a team to East Timor during a period of political and military unrest resulting in a humanitarian crisis. Operated vehicles and equipment to facilitate initiatives in difficult and unknown environments. During the latter half of this period, assumed responsibilities as an instructor to impart knowledge onto junior staff.
