Both our Key Stages use the Empiribox science scheme which has allowed the children to explore lots of exciting topics. Their knowledge is fantastic and they are all so keen to take part in the sessions. Many of their lessons have aspects that have are able to be taught outside at this time of year and it is great to see them enjoying themselves so much. Here the children were making rocket poppers using effervescent tablets and film cases. Why not ask your children about what they have been learning about in science and I am sure they will be willing to talk about all their practical experiments! We have also had classes working outside to inspire their writing, art work and maths; as well as enjoying PE in the warmer temperatures. These pictures inspired poetry writing based on the school environment.

Open Concert: This week KS2 have been rehearsing songs for the Open Concert in June. Those children who are selected to be a part of the event, either for dance or the choir, will be sent home with a letter tomorrow. Please note that all children who are taking part in the concert will need a plain long-sleeved black top and plain black leggings/trousers in school by Wednesday 6th June. Many thanks.

Key Stage 2 Cluster Football Tournament:

Family Learning:

Earlier this half term we started to run Family Learning Sessions within school, led by Norfolk

County Council. Unfortunately, due to the small numbers of parents attending, these sessions

were not viable to continue with. However, after half term we will be running some open

sessions in school where parents can come in to school and spend some time in class working

alongside your child. This will give you an opportunity to see some of the work that your

children have completed as well as experience what teaching and learning looks like within

our classrooms.

Dates and times will be sent out after half term so please look out for them!

Both our football teams won Bronze

medals.

Year 5 and 6 won 3 games, lost 1 and

drew 1 match. Out of all the games we

scored 7 goals in total. We felt excited

but a little bit nervous as at the start of

the afternoon we didn’t know how good

the other teams would be!

By Kacey and Harley

Year 3 and 4 won 2 matches, lost 2 and

drew 1. Everyone was proud of

themselves and tried as hard as they

could. The pitches were hard to play on

but we felt very happy because we got a

bronze medal. We were excited as we had

the chance to represent the school.

Fantastic work everyone – well done!

Purple Class Ancient Greek Day:

To experience what life might have been like in Ancient Greece we came to school dressed up

as our favourite Greek. Some of us came as Hoplite soldiers, Spartans, Greek Gods and

Goddesses or just ordinary Athenians. Unfortunately the weather on the day wasn’t very

Greek-like!

During the day, we found out about ‘The Illiad’. This is a famous epic poem written by Homer

which includes the story of The Trojan Wars. After listening to an audio version of the story,

we went on the field to recreate our own version using freeze-framing. This was great fun! We

also experimented with making fresco plaster rollers which we decorated with Greek style

images and symbols. We used these rollers to make impressions in clay. We learnt about the

importance of decorated pots and discovered how they were designed in a variety of shapes

and sizes depending on the pot’s function. We became detectives and worked in teams to

deduce what stories were being ‘told’ on a number of pots. Then we used this information to

design our own pots.

The best part of the day was the Greek food tasting. Here we got to try olives, tzatziki,

houmous, pitta bread, grapes, pomegranate, figs, pastili (a sesame seed and honey bar which

is said to be the earliest known energy bar) and taramasalata. This was the item of food which

impressed us the least!

All in all we had a fantastic day and special mention must go to all those parents who went the

‘extra mile’ to make some fabulous costumes. Thank you.
