The Page County Freedom Rock is part of the Freedom RockTour, created by the artist of The Freedom Rock; Ray "Bubba"Sorensen II. It aims to boost tourism and spread the message ofthanking our Veterans while providing a unique Freedom Rock forall 99 counties in the great state of Iowa.

Our Freedom Rock shows Vernon Joseph Baker, a United StatesArmy officer who received the Medal of Honor which is the highestmilitary award given by the United States Government for hisvalorous actions during World War II. Also pictured is Major GlennMiller, who was born in Clarinda and became internationallyfamous as Big Band leader in the 1930's and 1940's. He enlistedin the U.S. Army Corps in 1942 with efforts to modernize militarybands and his supreme sacrifice for his country have caused himto be remembered as America's favorite patriots. He's beenmissing in action since December 1, 1944.

The other side shows the Red Flag given to Page County for ourcounty's unique ratio of men that joined the Union fight offreedom, a Prisoner of War and the Cooper Brothers, who diedonly a few weeks apart during World War I. The funeral for themtook place on the Page County Courthouse steps: two coffins,two flags, one mother.
