Sunday August 17

BIBLE READING I trust your reading of Luke has been life giving. I have been reminded of the fact that our faith is evidence based not mere superstition and that we can have confidence that God will keep his promises because the Bible is full of examples of him doing just that. What have you discovered this week?

CLERGY DAY OFF: David Monday Pam Friday

My dear friends Tom and Salome Hoey, back in the 60,s, were the first white people to venture into a remote headhunting/cannibalistic tribe in rugged central PNG, and have been there ever since. within 6 months Tom had learned enough of their language to get some of God’s word onto cassette and dis-tributed to villages in a 50 mile radius.

Now in their old age, Tom has learned to put messages onto CDs to better able to be played over their own radio station which is operated by the Biami people them-selves. They listen on solar powered receivers and would you believe, even mobile phones.

Please pray for the “ Battle for the Biamis.” (Anne)

MINISTRY MORSEL Do you remember last week’s MM? How did it stimulate your thinking about ‘purpose’? To what

extent did you own the summary answer to the question, ‘What is God’s purpose for the world and

our lives.’?

I am passionate about each of us living out that purpose. I am passionate about Northern Beaches

Anglicans being a community that offers others life in its fullness through Jesus Christ. There is

a pressing need for a ‘place’ within the breadth of our parish activities for these things to be

explored and lived out. I have been grappling as to how and when to provide that ‘place’. There is no

universally suitable time or format but I am praying that what I am launching will be the start of a

significant move in growing ‘disciple making disciples’.

FRIDAY NIGHT FELLOWSHIP

FNF begins on Friday September 5 meeting weekly in school term time. Commencing from 6pm in

the Rectory, with a light meal jointly provided by bringing finger food to share, moving naturally

from fellowship around food to fellowship around God’s word. People are welcome to join in

even if unable to share the meal. The night will be shaped to avoid it being a late night and if couples

come and bring children we will make it work. Can I easily describe exactly how the night will

unfold? NO! Can I assure you that everyone is welcome and, God willing, each person will receive

something from being there? YES! You don’t need to sign up! Just turn up! Any questions please

talk with me.

Our initial focus: understanding and sharing the foundations of our faith.

SHIMMER COFFEE & DESSERT EVENING @ Cavanbah Centre, Harbour

Drive, Coffs Harbour on Friday 29th August commencing @ 7pm. Cost is $16.

Tickets need to be purchased by 26th August. See Leone Hanger if interested. Leone

is unable to provide transport as she will be at Synod that weekend.

Sunday August 17

Ichthus – Junior High and Primary Camp forms available from the office on request

or off our website.
