Transcript of Free Radicals Technology
FRT – how does it work?
• Free radicals are generated in aqueous solutions, by the means of a patent designed electrochemical cell.
• The free radicals being – nascent oxygen, hydroxyl, perhydroxyl and chlorides.
• Using these to create a chain reaction, producing oxidants to form countless highly reactive bubbles.
• Destroying organic matter and reducing other elements.
Highly reactive bubbles (1-10 microns)

Effluent treatment
Typical arrangemen
t•Requirements
415V power
Fresh water supply (maintenance use)
Effluent issues
• Current knowledge is that:– The level of Iron (Fe) is too high in effluent
system– There is Environmental Agency pressure due to
the redness effect and effect on biological life.
• Any other issues with the effluent system?
How can FRT help your process?
• Provide an efficient solution in water recovery• By removal of all organic material & metals ions• Elimination or settlement of suspended solids,
such as clay• Substantial reduction in Biomass and CO2
• Electroflucculation & electrogoagulation• Increased reuse of recycled water
FRT changes Cationic Demand
Uncharged particles FRT charged particles
Particle become too
heavy and fall
FRT can change your profits!

Environment Issues?
Biofilm formation
Stage 1:
Conditioning layer
Stage 2:
Bacterial Attachment
Stage 3:
Biofilm formation – Exopolysaccharide Biosynthesis
Stage 4:
Biofilm Maturation
Stage 5:
Dislodgement/ Detachment
Obnoxious Odour
• Results of testing carried out on 3 methylpyridine:– Easily combusted by Free radicals
– Oxidant products:
• Carbon Dioxide, Water and ammonia
CH3 6CO2+6H2O+NH3
N
Obnoxious Odour
– Also the Hydrogen sulphide H2S which has an offensive smell and corrosive action is oxidised to: sulphate SO4 and water:
– H2S +5O. SO4 +H2O
Example of FRT capability –
PHARMACEUTICAL WASTE
Removal @ Recovery of floride from an industrial waste stream.
Inlet > 6000ppm reduced to <0.3ppm
Successful trial at Abbott Laboratories Ltd/Sheppy Island
Achieved without additional chemical or mechanical aids

Other Applications
• 3rd World water project(s)
• Discharge of waste from Royal Navy vessels
• Ethanol manufacture –removal of odour
• Odour removal from waste treatment plants
• Legionella control
FRT PERFORMANCE
• Turbidity and colour removal• Elimination of suspended solids• Oxidation of organic materials• Eradication of odor formed by bacteria sulphites,
ammonia, and other nitrogen compounds• Bacterial counts to zero if required• Substantial reduction of COD / BOD• Metal ions removal• Hardness reduction and hard scale formation
prevention
Benefits
• Environmentally friendly process• Reduction in fresh water demand• Can be adapted for most aqueous fluid
recovery• Recovery of unusable water• Faster recycling times• Low energy / maintenance costs
FRT ApplicationCase Study – Chartham Mill
• Bacteria = reduced substantially to the required environmental level
• Turbidity = reduced to the environmental level.• Suspended solids = reduce.• TDS = reduced• BOD and COD = substantially reduced.• Obnoxious odour eradicated.• Sticky oily material burned up.• Algae destroyed.
