Getting a variety of foods andnutrients in your diet is essentialcompared to focusing on just oneor two in large quantities. The morecolorfulyourplateiswithavarietyofchoicesfromthelistbelow, thebetter.
1.Vitamin C: Citrus Fruits & Greens Consuming foodshigh in vitaminCsuchasgrapefruits, oranges, tangerines, sweetredpepper, broccoli, strawberries, kale, and kiwifruit are thought toincrease white blood cell production, which is key to fighting infection.
2. Beta-Carotene – Root Vegetables & Greens Beta-caroteneconvertsintovitaminA, which is an anti-inflammatory vitamin that can help your antibodiesrespond to toxins, such as a virus.Carrots, spinach, kale, apricots, sweetpotato, squash, and cantaloupe are allgreatsourcesofbeta-carotene.VitaminAisafat-solublevitamin,soconsumingfoods with healthy fats will aid in itsabsorption. A great immune-boostingcombination would be carrots withtraditional hummus or a spinachsaladwith avocadooroliveoil in thedressing.
3. Vitamin E – Nuts, Seeds & Greens Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitaminthatiskeyinregulatingandsupportingimmunesystemfunction.FoodsrichinvitaminE includenuts,seeds,avocado,

4. Antioxidants – Green Tea Green tea is packed withantioxidants that have been shownto enhance immune system function. It also contains amino acids that mayaid in the production of germ-fighting compounds in your T-cells, whichreduces inflammation in the body and helps fight infection. Green tea can be consumed hot, cold or as matchapowder.
5. Vitamin D – Sunshine, Fish & Eggs Vitamin D is essential to immunefunctionandhelpsregulatethebody’simmune response.Vitamin D can befound in salmon, canned tuna, eggyolks, andmushrooms.Your body canalsosynthesizevitaminDwithjust13-15minutes of sunshine three times aweek.

The microbiome or the“good bacteria” in your digestivesystemdeterminehowothernutrientsandharmfulbacteriaareprocessed inyour body, making probiotics perhapsone of the most important functionsfor immunity. The microbiome helpsyou process the nutrients describedthroughout the rest of this article, whilealsoactingasanextrabarrierforfighting off harmful bacteria and fungi.
7. Garlic – T-Cell Booster Garlic contains compounds thathelp the immune system fight germs in a variety of ways by stimulatingcells important to fighting disease and helping to regulate the immunesystem. It helps boost theproduction

August at the Senior CenterThings are hopping at the senior center. But as you can see, our sheriff, Brian Gutowski stops
in occasionally to keep an eye on us.. Actually he came to call bingo. We’re having a good time, wish-ing you were here to join us. Maybe next week? Meanwhile our volunteers have come back and we couldn’t be happier. Their assistance helps us keep this place running smoothly. Thanks to all of you.
