PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello Everybody, Welcome to the New Year. Isn’t it great that we are having a break in the heat, so that we can all once again enjoy our dancing. Talking of which, don’t forget the free dance being held at the Deception Bay Hall after the AGM being held on 10 March. Please come along and have a say at this meeting, as this is your opportunity to bring new ideas about engaging new

people to enjoy our great pastime of dancing or anything else you think needs to be said or heard. Most clubs have started the new year reporting good numbers and beginner’s classes are reporting some good attendances. Glenn has received enquiries about the Plus Class starting in March. I am getting excited preparing for the National Convention, attending to the correspondence between myself and the National Committee. While talking of conventions, don’t forget the State Convention being held in Rockhampton in September. The Flyer which is attached within this month’s Bugle. It has been brought to my notice that some people are not receiving their copies of The Bugle, and after making enquiries, I discovered they had been receiving their copies from a second party. If you wish to receive The Bugle directly, please contact the bugle editor on [email protected] to receive your copy directly. This is a free service to all dancers, and it is not a requirement that you be a member to receive it. Kindly remember however, that articles that you wish to be put within the Bugle and if you are not members of the society, they will accrue a cost. There have been complaints from some people that The Society dances have not been held with in their area. We regularly seek that clubs nominate to host these events, and if you are wishing to have one held in your area, please talk to your club members about sending in a nomination to do so. We are currently seeking nominations to host the Sunshine State Roundup, held in conjunction with the QCA dance for the afternoon which is held on the fourth Saturday in September, which this year happens to be 28 September. The Christmas Dance, is held on the second Saturday of November, which this year is the 9 November, and next years AGM, which is held second Sunday in March, which is 8 March 2020.

10th October 1925 – 30th November 2018

Our heartfelt sincere thanks are extended to all who have expressed their

sympathy and condolences at this sad time.

We celebrated Margaret’s life on the 6th December in a beautiful way and

thank those who made the journey to attend this celebration.

We now hope that Mum and Dad are now back together and dancing up a

storm.

Mum and Dad were married on the 3rd March (1951) and we plan to

scatter their ashes on that day in one of their favourite locations.

Once again our sincere thanks.

Burleigh Square Dance Club

Burleigh Squares is alive and well on the Gold Coast. Last Saturday we were pleased to welcome Barry Wonson (A well known caller from Woolongong & Sydney area), who just happened to drop in to say "Hello". Of course we got him to do a few calls along with Alan Evans. What a fabulous evening of dancing and entertainment impromptu style. Other visitors from interstate included, Maureen from Western Australia, Martin and Janette from Sydney NSW. Thank you for joining us while you are on holidays and visiting family. If you know of anyone wanting to take up square dancing, either for the first time or come back to it after a break, please let them know that Burleigh Squares will be starting Basics and a refresher course as of 9th March 2019. EZ Squares News

Our club started classes on Tuesday 5th February with mainstream dancing. On the

12th we advertised a beginner’s night, but unfortunately those who contacted us for

details and indicated that they would like to come, did not make an appearance –

maybe it was the very hot conditions that kept them away. On the third night back

we hoped that some would turn up…..one of our newer dancers was there and all

we can do is just keep trying with as much advertising as we can manage. We need

to give it a chance and you never know things might turn around.

We look forward to meeting up with our friends from other clubs for our first party

night for the year on Tuesday, 30th April.

Wavell Whirlaways News

Wavell Whirlaways now have a new home at St Clement’s Anglican Church Hall, 2 Eudunda Street, Stafford. This is a change to the one previously reported in the November/December 2018 “Bugle”. Our 50th Birthday Party is coming up on Wednesday 27 March and we’d love to see as many of you as possible to help us celebrate. Cane Country Squares News

Happy 36th Birthday Cane Country Squares!

The celebration begins at 6.30pm on Friday, 1 March at the Rum City Band Hall

(Targo Street across from Dan Murphy’s). Dancing, pizza, raffles and a “Lucky

Spot” contest will fill a great night and we’re looking forward to members and visitor

from other clubs making the trip.

Our new learner’s night was a lot of fun with 9 new people in attendance (see

photos):

Gumdale Grandsliders Despite the really dreadful heat and humidity, this year’s dancing has started off well. Three,

four and even five squares have danced apart from one night when only the very loyal were

in evidence. Most sensible people stayed at home in the air conditioning!

A number of our mainstream dancers have begun learning Plus, and we have welcomed 2

past dancers and two new members, who are very enthusiastic, and are doing well.

Gumdale Grandsliders held their AGM on Tuesday, celebrating with pizzas for lunch, and

welcoming back the team that has served for the last year and beyond- Heather and Barry

Pennington; Jen and Jim Felstead, Teresa Supel and myself.

HERVEY BAY SQUARE DANCING CLUB

Hello to all. Progress is continuing at a steady rate

preparing for our big Birthday Bash being held in

Mar. This month we have held our regular

members birthday luncheon on the 3rd Feb.

Members who attended the function held at the

Hervey Bay Golf Club, enjoyed the day.

A CD social night was held on the 9th Feb, all

attending had a great night. We are still continuing our regular Monday, Wednesday night

and Saturday morning sessions. Our new members are progressing well, they have

completed learning all the mainstream moves and are now putting them into practice with

the expected strange looks appearing on some faces during the brackets.

Our annual general meeting will be held on the 4th March, The President, Vice President

and secretary’s positions will be vacant and new office bearers will be elected.
