ADULT LITERACY AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The Adult Literacy and Skills Development Program is a social intervention program
aimed at mitigating the canker of illiteracy among Adults and hence alleviating poverty among
them. The program is to train adults and youths in the aspects of reading and writing and
basic entrepreneurial skills (Business skills). It is meant to break the barrier of illiteracy and
alleviate poverty among adults and to help achieve some of the sustainable development goals
The program will mainly target and benefit illiterate adults and youth who will include, school
dropouts, orphans, and street dwellers. It is intended to increase awareness in regards to human
rights, education and economic empowerment of a rural adults and youth as well as to improve
their standards of living thus reducing poverty. The needy groups are between 16 – 35 years to
be enrolled in the AYLC adult literacy and skills training which will be implemented within
targeted areas in Africa with AYLC representation who are stigmatized by myths such as failed
lives, poor-self-concept and the equation of poverty with illiteracy.
As the Founder of African Youth Leadership Consult, (AYLC) proposed this project in our quest
to help provide solutions to some of our planet problems and also help raise some of the profile
of neglected causes among the less endowed, the less privilege and the marginalized. Also
considering current statistics on adult illiteracy and the rate of poverty among these illiterate
adults is very excruciating and therefore needs a remedy.
