Health link cards were distributed among 1616 construction workers. The ‘Summer School Pro- gramme’ celebrated creativity among children aged 6 years and above across all daycare centres. 832 students partici- pated in themed song, poetry, dance, drawing, and crafts. In June ‘14, children from all daycare centers were taken for Excursions to the Nehru Tara Mandal & Nehru Museum. 400 children, 27 community members, and 28 staff mem- bers were awed by galaxy displays and later captured their experiences with artistic expression. During the quarter, 9 street plays were orga- nized to communicate importance of Crèche and Early Childhood health, nutrition and hygiene. Reinforcement by regular fol- low-ups has sensitized 1355 community members. Health Camps at 5 centres reached out to 1151 commu- nity members, administering general check-ups and eye exams. Financial literacy meetings were conducted in 5 centres which included information on household saving and budget- ing. 4 community members opened bank accounts with SBI designated Grahak Seva Kendra executives. 21 community leaders, repre- senting 5 sites, attended an orientation and sensitization meeting to build better aware- ness of early childhood issues. Leaders reported active par- ticipation in meetings, pro- grammes, and assisting com- munity members in reaching out to PHCs. Mother’s Meetings, Facilitation Worker Training, and Capacity Building Workshops were orga- nized as per usual. FRIEND RAISING AND FUND RAISING ISSUE 51, APRIL—JUNE 2014 Armaan, was one of the 4881 children reached in last quarter. Weighed 5.5 kgs in 20 months and was severely malnourished. Initially, the child was linked to GTB hospital, for checkup and medication; however, the situation did not improve substantially. Mobile Creches staff suggested the family to take care of the child and feed him with special diet like Daliya, Khi- chdi, Sooji ka Kheer, boiled egg etc. Mean- while, Mobile Creches contacted Nutritional Rehabilitation Centers at Hindu Rao hospital to get special attention for curbing the malnutri- tion. He was admitted and received proper diet, medicines and massage. With the inter- vention, child’s weight has improved to 9.5 Kgs and he is leading a normal healthy life. At Mobile Creches, we experience everyday the national shame of malnutrition in India. Balanced diet is fundamen- tal for a healthy human being, especially for the proper development of children. Kohler Group organized a 3 day engage-

ment option with children of Vatika center

in March and April. Two days focused on

activities of drawing, painting, dance and

sports. Kohler stewardship head marked her

presence by distributing “Health and Hy-

giene” Kits to students on the closing day.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM DELHI STATE ADVOCACY

To raise the issue of young children in Delhi state

and General Elections, Delhi FORCES (network of

40 organizations, Mobile Crèches convening)

prepared and submitted a Demand Charter. 220

people participated in the collective meeting in

April. Three major political parties included the

young child issue in their election manifesto.

Through our State Advocacy, we successfully

incited the WCD department to translate the

provision of ECCE day as mentioned in the re-

structured ICDS. In Phase 1 of ECCE day roll-out,

10 Anganwadi centres reached approx. 150

parents.
