Volume 60 No. 1 July-August 2019 Our 96th Year
Brothers:
Pleasant greetings to all of you. First, I would
like to say thank you for the opportunity to lead the
Joseph Barry Council. I’m looking forward to a
productive year. I never anticipated taking on such
an important role not only in our Catholic community
but also in our local Hicksville community. The
Knights of Columbus has been an important asset to
Hicksville for many years. It is vital that we continue
to be relevant as our local community is going
through much change. Second, I want to
congratulate my fellow officers in each of their
respective roles. Together, we can navigate the
Council to another successful year and make a
difference in our community.
A few summer reminders. Our business meetings
will be on July 16 and August 20. Doo Wop Night,
featuring the music of the Acchords, will be on
August 24. Please contact Brian Dunker if you
would like to attend. It is a wonderful evening with
great music. A quick look ahead: the installation of
the Council’s new officers will be on September 3
and the past Grand Knight’s Testimonial will be
September 28. Please attend the latter so that we can
properly honor Artie Traylor for all his work.
Lastly, let’s keep in mind two noteworthy saints
over this summer. July 29 is Saint Martha’s Day. A
close friend of Jesus, Martha once prepared a meal
for him and pointed out that “all hands should pitch
in to help with dinner.” She is the patron saint of
cooks, housewives, servants, waiters, and
waitresses. July 31 is Saint Ignatius of Loyola
Day. The namesake of our church, he is the
patron saint of retreats and the founder of both
the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and the Roman
College.
Fraternally,
Derek Stadler
Grand Knight
