Monday 2 June 2014 Edition 17 Week 6 Term 2
Welcome to another week at school. Last week I had the
pleasure of taking our school captains Brooklyn and Josh to
Batlow to attend a mayoral reception for the governor of
NSW, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir. We were
delighted to be able to meet her at the reception and she
proved to be a most gracious and interesting lady to talk to.
Highlights ahead for this week include:
Four Year 5 students travelling to ‘Wagga for
EnviroChamps’ on Tuesday 3 June
The Highlands Athletics Carnival on Friday 6 June
Fund Raising Event for Minogue Family
FUND RAISING EVENT As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, three of our students, Jonny, Cameron and Jordan Minogue, lost all of
their belongings in a house fire recently. We would like to
show our support for the boys and we have organised a fund raising activity for this Wednesday, 4 June. We are
asking everyone to bring in one or two gold coins to
contribute to this activity. We will write the boy’s first
initials, (J C J) on the cement and then cover the initials with gold coins. If you can assist in this activity please send
the coins in on Wednesday.
ATHLETICS CARNIVAL We had a great athletics carnival last Thursday. We were
fortunate to have perfect weather for the day.
The staff planned lots of events under Mr Gorman’s
leadership and the students were kept active all day. A big thank you goes to all of the parents who assisted
with the events and in the kiosk.

PSSA KNOCKOUT 2014
The netball girls braved the weather last Wednesday to compete in the Highlands component of the PSSA Knockout. Franklin’s team consisted of Lilly Lubke, Abby Skein, Leith Turner, Zoe Dowling, Molly Curll, Brooklyn Randall, Grace King, Mackenzie Clear, Tavia King and Jorja Muir with Laura Rapley being an assistant coach.
Through the sleety rain and chilling winds we played against Tumut Public School in the first game. They brought a high quality game and unfortunately the competition was too tough and our girls lost. As a result we were out of the knockout competition.
Our next game was against Tumbarumba. The rain held off for half of the game, which gave our girls a stronger chance at bringing their A-game. As the game continued, Lilly Lubke was a standout both as a shooter and defender, making important turn-arounds for our team. Abby Skein also had many intercepts which boosted the morale of our girls. We won this game 9-2 win.
I would like to thank all parents for helping with transporting the girls to the courts and as a support team for the girls. A special thanks to Melissa Bradshaw for braving the weather to umpire and Kellie King for being a score keeper. It is great to see family taking pride in our sporting ventures. Without you, the day would not run as smoothly and the girls wouldn’t get this great opportunity to play against other teams.
