Birth

• Cologne, Germany in 1958

Initial Success

• In 1981, he won first place at the Guitar Competition of Granada. This win was quite a special win because Andres Segovia was the one who honored him with the first prize.

• Andres Segovia is known as the “Father of Classical Guitar”

Continued Success

• His first place victory was followed by an extensive concert tour of Spain.

• Spain is known for Spanish Guitar (a style within Classical Guitar)

• Frank Bungarten has performed in over 40 countries.

• His repertoire has focused around Bach even though he loves to play a wide variety of composers.

Life with a Guitar

• His guitar life began at the age of 10.• He was taught by Carlos Baez.• He eventually went on to study at the

Academy of Music of Cologne• He also trained with Karl-Heinz Bottner,

Hubert Kappel, and Oscar Ghiglia.

Life after Study

• After studying guitar, he became a lecturer and soloist.

• He has played in the berlin Philharmonic, the Arts and Convention Centre Lucerne, the Gasteig Munich, the Salzburg Festival, Schwetzingen, Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, etc…

• He was professor at the University of Lucerne from 1989 to 2010.
