In 1530,ClementVII authorized theFranciscanOrder tocelebrate thedivineofficeof theMostHolyNameofJesus.Althoughthefeastneverdisappeared from theCommonFranciscanCalendar, itwas removed from theGeneralRomanCalendarin1970.PopeJohnPaulIIrestoredthefeasttotheGeneralCalendar,withtherankofOptionalMemorial,whenherevisedtheRomanMissal in2002.ForFranciscans, the textsareproperFranciscantexts,andthefeastenjoystherankofMemorial.

ClaricewasbornatVignanello(Viterbo)Italy,in1585,thedaughterofMarcoAntonioandOttaviaOrsini,ofthefamousRomanprincelyfamily.At20yearsofage,heenteredtheConventofSanBernardinoinViterbo,whereshetookthenameHyacinthe.RatherthanbecomeaPoorClare,shechosetobeaFranciscanTertiarynotboundbystrictcloister.Forabout15yearsshelivedreligiouslifein“muchvanityandfoolishness.”DuringanillnessshereceivedthegraceofGod—atotal,sincereconversion.Overthenext24yearsshelivedinpovertyandheroicpenance,andclimbedtothehighestlevelsofChristianperfection.Althoughlinkedtothecloister,shewasactivelyinvolvedinapostolicworks.Tothepoor,thesufferingandtheimprisonedshededicatedher charity,material aswell as spiritual.
