The shores of upper Lake Garda give rise to the fortunes of the noble Bettoni family, and the centuries-old tradition of the pressing of extra-virgin olive oil, an activity which still today runs side by side with the production of Franciacorta wine.At Villa Bettoni - an extraordinary historical villa built in the XVIIIth century by the architect Adriano Cristofori surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and lemon orchards - an extended network of business exchanges was established with the whole world.Today, this process of transformation, strongly desired by the Bettoni Cazzago family, is joined by the quest for refi ned quality in the production of olives and oil.

The project of the transformation of family holdings that led to the current properties in Franciacorta, began in the 1980s. Count Vincenzo Bettoni Cazzago, a talented agronomist, put the family vineyards into production. With the use of modern techniques and innovative materials, the Count made use of excellent quality Chardonnay and Pinot grapes. Inclusion into the Franciacorta wine producers and growers’ market is continuing today thanks to the ongoing commitment of the family Bettoni Cazzago.

Since more remote times, the hillsides of Franciacorta, a prestigious and dominating wine-growing area, have cultivated vines that have been complementary to the extraordinary agricultural development and the work done by the religious communities which over the centuries have salvaged the lands that had originally been covered by woodland: the well balanced transformation of the landscape with the planting of vines and the construction of monasteries, churches, abbeys, villas and castles, stone villages, led to the creation of a capital of culture and nature of unaltered charm. This precious earth that protects and respects the signs of the times, south of Lake Iseo, where wine production boasts the exclusive DOCG denomination, favours the production of our excellent Chardonnay and Pinot grapes.

On the top of Santa Giulia hill, beside the cluniac church of the same name, within a singular landscape, the sumptuous eighteenth century villa Palazzo Cazzago, is the home of the Bettoni Cazzago family. The villa is part of the ancient lands belonging to the noble families Bettoni and Cazzago. The lands include approximately 15 hectares of hillside at Cazzago San Martino in Franciacorta and, on the shores of upper lake Garda, the enchanting Villa di Bogliaco di Gargnano. The Bettoni and Cazzago families, the fi rst originating from Lake Garda, the second native from Franciacorta, both involved in the cultivation of vines, merged in the XVIIIth century, integrating and embellishing their cultural and economic wealth and also the agricultural heritage with an alliance of experiences having considerable historical and intellectual importance.Over time, important people passed through their court, like Maria Theresa of Austria, Napoleon I, Napoleon III, members of the Savoia family, Victor Hugo, Puccini, Benedetti Michelangeli.
