MICK MANNING grew up in West Yorkshire and studied illustration at the Royal College of Art in London. He has written and illustrated over 60 books, many of them for Frances Lincoln, mostly with his wife BRITA GRANSTRÖM. Brita grew up on a farm in Sweden, and studied illustration in Stockholm. Their distinctive books have won many awards, including the Smarties Silver Prize, the English Association 4-11 Award and The Royal Society Young People’s Book Award. JANE RAY began her career as a designer but discovered a love for children’s book illustration, especially fairy tales, mythology and folktales. Jane’s first picture book for Frances Lincoln was Jinnie Ghost with Berlie Doherty, shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Award. Her other acclaimed picture books include bestselling The Twelve Days of Christmas; The King of Capri with Jeanette Winterson; Romeo and Juliet with Michael Rosen; The Dolls’ House Fairy and Snow White, which she both wrote and illustrated; Greek Myths for Frances Lincoln. She lives with her family in North London.

BEVERLEY NAIDOO was born in South Africa. Her first book, Journey to Jo’burg, won The Other Award in Britain. It opened a window onto children’s struggles under apartheid. It was banned in South Africa until 1991, the year after Nelson Mandela was released from prison. It took 26 years for Beverly Naidoo to be able to return to her country to research freely. In all her stories, young characters from different backgrounds face tense conflicts and choices. Beverley chose London as the setting for her first novel set outside South Africa but the issues are just as dramatic; The Other Side of Truth won the Carnegie Medal.

PRODEEPTA DAS was born in eastern India. He is a freelance photographer and author whose pictures have been published in over 20 children’s books.
