PARTS OF A FRAME• A frame typically consists of:
A front (it holds the lenses)A BridgeA pair of temples (ear pieces)Nose pads
PARTS OF A FRAME
FRONT• A component of an ophthalmic
frame, consisting of a bridge and eyewires.
BRIDGE
• The supportive structural member connecting the two eye wires of an ophthalmic frame.

EYEWIRE GROOVE
• The recessed area of an eyewire, in which the lens edge is seated, is called eyewire groove.
EYEWIRES
HINGES
Part of the hardware of the frame
Hinges attach temples to frame front.

Riding bow Temples:
A style of temples, in which it bends around the ear.
Useful for people, whose jobs are active, or for small children.

PLASTIC FRAME MATERIALS
Cellulose AcetateCellulose NitratePolymide (A nylon)
Acrylic (occasionally used)
Carbon fiber (added to frames to give strength and light weight)
CELLULOSE ACETATE, ZYL
• Most commonly used• Can be produced faster than other
plastic frames• Is more colorfast.
ZYL
FRAME
CELLULOSE NITRATE
Tougher than Cellulose Acetate.Thinner frames.Harder surface, so easy to polish.Easier to work on.Better dimensional stability.
