SCENARIO

advice and assistance to clients on financial accounting and general business
issues. You have been asked by Director of Finance in your company to prepare an
analytical review of the financial position and reporting of a well-known companyStarbucks
You are required to download the most recent published financial statements of
Starbucks as of December 31, 2012 and other information available, either in the
public domain or from within the company. You will have to obtain a copy of those
published statements; this process is itself a significant exercise in investigating

Since first 1971, Starbucks has felt a responsibility to make a positive impact one
person, one cup and one neighborhood at a time. As Starbucks has grown to now
more than 18,000 stores in over 60 countries, Starbucks expanded its long-termrelationship with Maxim's Group to now operate Starbucks stores in Vietnam, with
the first store in Ho Chi Minh City in early February 2013. Starbucks recognizes that
commitment to corporate citizenship is also a business imperative. Starbucks can
use scale for good, and catalyze change across entire industries so that Starbucks
and everyone it touches can endure and thrive.
On a global level, Starbucks is trying to be innovative in how Starbucks think about
communities. Starbucks go beyond the impact of a single company, to energize andactivate its employees who is called partners along with Starbucks customers,
suppliers and nonprofit partners. Starbucks annual Global Month of Service is a
great example, with more than 230,000 hours of service and 2,100 projects
completed in April 2012, and with plans to expand in new directions in 2013.
Starbucks demonstrated the power that happens when its partners and a community
come together. Starbucks opened in Vietnam to take hold of its own destiny.
Starbucks is known as a global change ultimately resides in the power of each
individual.
