Between You and Me
Financial Planner/ Financial Adviser/ Financial Analyst related to providing guidance to businesses and individuals in making investment decisions continues to be amongst the best jobs as well as the most lucrative ones reported in the CareerCast 2016 rankings of America’s 200 jobs. Financial Analyst was ranked as the 27th best job with projected growth being in the first quartile. Moreover, in the recent 2017 report of CareerCast, Financial Adviser has been ranked at number 2 as the most-in-demand jobs. It mentions that “Qualified Financial Advisors have no shortage of opportunities in the coming years. The Bureau of Labour Statistics (US) projects growth of 30% by 2024, forecasting demand from employers that might be difficult to keep pace with.
In India, Financial Planning is increasingly relevant as an art and science to create and manage wealth in a disciplined manner and achieve financial goals. It is more towards attaining a state of financial freedom, a way of achieving balance in our financial transactions on an ongoing basis than one-off transactions. The number of CFP professionals worldwide has marched past 1.70 lakh as on 31 December 2016 while in India the number has crossed 2,000 while more than 5,700 candidates are reckoned as eligible to receive CFP certification in India.
India’s vast middle class population requires Financial Planning services to achieve their life goals. The CFPCM Certification is an accredited certification to register as Registered Investment Adviser with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). In three decades India will have the second largest population of senior citizens in the world. This is on top of the fact that no
social security has been built as a Government initiative. This entails Retirement Planning to be our top priority. Hence, a holistic retirement plan is the need of the hour. The CFPCM Certification and Associate Financial Planner (Retirement Planning) are recognized by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) as eligible certifications for registering as Retirement Advisers with PFRDA.
In India, the regulatory efforts are at an advanced stage to creating an effective oversight of intermediaries in the financial services. The vision of FPSB India is to harmonize diverse financial domains on the Personal Finance platform for an individual’s disciplined achievement of financial goals. Such domains include investments in accordance with risk profile to achieve financial goals; insurance to cover risk to life, health and assets; a retirement plan or a suitable arrangement in lieu thereof to build a sufficient retirement corpus; estate planning for effective and tax-efficient transfer of assets to dependents, etc. The aim of FPSB India is to strike a convergence of regulations blurring the differentiation in products of similar profile which fall under different regulatory purview.
FPSB India continues to steer the Financial Planning movement in the country and work closely with all stakeholders for further augmentation of Financial Planning profession and to help India’s Wealth Quotient on an upward spiral.
