CAP Radio CommunicationsSeveral members have expressed interest in getting more experience in radio communications and we have threopportunities to help address that.

    1) We run two radio nets from Wing HQ every Thursday. We are starting a Guest Operator program whereby anwho would like to be the Net Control Operator on Thursday can sign up for dates to fill that role.

    2) We currently have eight repeaters located throughout the wing. Most of them do not have a regularly schedulenet. Similar to the first program, we are looking for people who would like to run nets from these repeaters. This be on a daily, weekly or other scheduled basis. This will give members the opportunity to get Net Control experieand will also allow other members in range of that repeater to use their radio equipment, getting practice andensuring the equipment is functional.

    3) We know there are areas within the wing that are not served by a repeater. We are planning an airborne repeaexercise on a monthly basis for at least the next few months. These will be announced in advance so everyoneknows the date, time and location(s) we expect to cover. Tentatively we are planning on thethird Tuesday of evemonth through the end of FY2013.

Maj Ron Walerowicz will be the coordinator for the first two initiatives. He can be contacted via e-mail at:[email protected]

Performing as a Net Control Operator is a requirement in the Communications Specialty Track so here is youropportunity to help complete that requirement. It will also help anyone who is working towards new or renewed Mor CUL qualifications. Note that cadets are encouraged to participate in all of these programs!

URGENT - There is a new update on Civil Air Patrol's National website regarding the progress of the Congressional Gold Medal to honor theWWII CAP members. Time is of the essence to get the remaining 84 members to co-sponsor the bill. Please visit the following link for morenformation.

am asking for your help on behalf of our civilian WWII, Civil Air Patrol volunteers. Calling YOUR Representative who has not yet signed on o-sponsors of HR 719 the bill to recognize the civilian WWII Civil Air Patrol volunteers with the congressional Gold Medal will have much m

mpact than just having myself contact them. Elected Representative only want to hear from the residents of their respective districts. Cadets

alling would have a very good impact. Remember that when making a call like this you are NOT political. Only talk about the Gold Medal anCivil Air Patrol. Be prepared to explain what Civil air Patrol is.

Please use the following as talking points.

During the war CAP members, as volunteer civilians, flew combat and humanitarian missions in support of the U.S. military using their ownircraft. During 18 months of combat operations between March 1942 and August 1943 CAP sank two enemy submarines and attacked 57 wmall light aircraft armed with 50 and 100 pound bombs and 325 pound depth charges. Other missions included target towing (where CAPircraft were shot at by ground gunners and interceptor aircraft), search and rescue, border patrol, disaster relief and emergency transportatf people and cargo. During the war 60,000 adult CAP members participated in the program. CAP adult members in the war had been prometerans benefits which never materialized.

The support to the nation provided by CAP volunteers was highly unusual (civilians flying combat missions) and was done without recognitioeterans benefits. With only a small number of CAP WWII members still alive it is important to honor these unique civilian volunteers (and thamilies) before it is too late. Each identified WWII member or family would be provided a replica medal at no cost to the tax payers.

Please urge these Reps to support the valuable wartime service rendered by the civilian volunteers of the Civil Air Patrol!

To co-sponsor H.R. 719, please e-mail Todd Ethington at: [email protected]

These Representative should be in their home districts until 8 Sept.

We are running out of time. If this doesnt get through the house before this December its dead and well have to start all over. Between nownd then how many CAP WWII veterans will have passed away? It would be OK if youd e-mail me back with how the phone call went. Thaou on behalf of the WWII veteran volunteers and their families!
