Dear Western Valley Families, The Western Valley Middle School staff welcomes you and your child to the 2021-2022 school year! First Day of School The first day of school is Monday, August 2, 2021.

Masks/Face Coverings

Masks and face coverings are optional at Western Valley Schools. However, it is strongly encouraged that students and families wear them while on campus.

WVMS Meet the Teacher Night To help reduce the number of parents and students on campus we will hold meetings based on your last name. We are also requesting that only one parent attend the meeting along with the student(s) to continue to follow health and safety guidelines.

Visitors Visitors are not allowed onto campus at this time, we will continue to follow the FESD Health and Safety Protocols to limit the amount of people on campus. Parents are encouraged to call the school at the number above to set up an appointment to keep traffic to a minimum in the office.

Student Uniforms

At Western Valley, we follow the FESD District Student Uniform Policy. Students are required to come in uniforms every day. The uniform consists of a white, navy or light blue, plain collared shirt and a navy-blue bottom. Students are also required to wear closed-toe shoes. The 2021-2022 WV Parent/Student Handbook is available on our district website (www.fesd.org) and in the online student agenda. Take the time to review the handbook, as it contains specific information about school policies. The uniform policy will be strictly enforced, so please ensure that your child has appropriate uniform clothing. Denim/jean bottoms will only be allowed on dress down days.

Student Supply List

This year, our district is allocating elementary and secondary school emergency relief (ESSER) funds to provide these materials to each school site. Parents will not need to provide these school supplies for their children. We are grateful for the continued support, generosity, and patience that our families have demonstrated during these challenging times.

2021-2022 Fowler Elementary School District Calendar

Enclosed, you will find the Fowler Elementary School District adopted calendar for the 2021-2022 school year. Take the time to note important dates, holidays, and early release dates. Please make every effort to ensure that future vacations, doctor’s appointments, and family functions are planned when school is not in session. Note that all students (2nd – 8th) will be receiving a student agenda in which to write important dates, homework assignments and parent/teacher communication. Take a few moments with your child during the first week of school to write down these dates in her/his agenda. This will be a very important communication tool for students, parents and teachers during the school year so please familiarize yourself with it.

Attendance and Tardiness

At Western Valley, we value good attendance and punctuality for students. When an absence or tardiness occurs, parents should notify the school office attendance line: WVMS - (623) 707-2106. Please call no later than 10:00 A.M. on the day of the occurrence. Students that exceed the maximum of 10 absences per year may be cited, as permissible by Arizona state law.

Drop-Off/Pick-Up Reminder We will retain the same middle school pick-up procedures from the 2019-2020 school year (in the WVMS south parking lot). Bus route information will be available at the “Meet the Teacher” event. Students can not be picked up and dropped off in the bus bays.

If you have not already completed a Free and Reduced Lunch Application, we need you to go on-line to www.lunchapplication.com to complete and submit the application as soon as possible.

Health and Safety Reminders

The Fowler Elementary School District will continue to adhere to health and safety guidelines to ensure the safety of our students and staff. In partnership with Healthy Verify the Fowler Elementary School District has adopted a “Return to School Mitigation Plan” that will be available in its entirety on the FESD website www.fesd.org. Please review the guidelines below before arriving on campus.

● Face coverings are not mandated; however, they are strongly recommended ● Continue to socially distance (minimum of 3 feet) ● Temperature checks will be conducted before entering any buildings ● Parents will not be allowed on campus except in the office/lobby when an appointment is scheduled ● All classrooms will be sanitized daily ● Restrooms will be sanitized throughout the day ● All common areas will be sanitized after each visit (cafe, special area classrooms, library, etc.) ● Students will remain in cohorts to minimize the possibility of exposure and to ensure effective contact tracing if necessary ● Playground equipment will be off limits during the first few weeks of school ● Both breakfast and lunch will be “grab and go” to increase efficiency in our cafe lines. Continuaremos nuestro día de salida temprana todos los jueves para el desarrollo profesional de los maestros, según lo aprobado por la Junta Escolar Primaria Fowler.
