Sacred Heart Parish
Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.
0132 Sacred Heart Parish Sunday, December 21, 2014
God was with Mary from the beginning; Gabriel is reminding her of that. God chose Mary before
Mary chose God. Sometimes we get the mistaken impression in our own faith journeys that we
made the decision to be faith-filled and to follow the Lord. We have been chosen by the Lord and
as Christmas is upon us, we must always remember that. Jesus made it very clear to His
disciples when He said to them, “You did not choose me; I chose you.” (Jn 15:16) Part of our
understanding of stewardship involves us realizing that God has selected us for a particular role
and vocation in life, and that good stewardship calls for us to identify that role and pursue it to
build the Kingdom of God.
Our readings this week focus on our calling and the imminent arrival of the Christ child. Nathan
the prophet says to King David near the beginning of the first reading, “The Lord is with you.”
David is reflecting on what has happened in his life. It is clear to him that God has chosen him
and the Lord has done great things for him. David’s contemplation leads him to think what he can
do for God. God has done wonderful things for each of us as well. Our stewardship challenge is
to come up with ways that we can do good things for God and others. We understand that God
cannot be outdone in generosity; we also understand that God does not necessarily need all that
we might share or do. Nevertheless, we need to do those things to show our gratitude to the Lord.
God is giving us an incredible gift in a few short days. We need to respond to that.

“Come Let Us Adore Him”
During the busy Advent Season, if you are tired and overwhelmed by your many duties and
responsibilities; if you are trying to find meaning in life, then come spend some quiet time with
our precious Lord Jesus Christ. Abandon yourself to Jesus in this "Sacrament of Love" and He will
refresh you! The more time you spend with Jesus, the more you will come away feeling renewed
and refreshed. There you can speak with Him about anything. You can offer Him your petitions,
concerns, troubles, joys, gratitude and all your needs. He is always there waiting for you in the silence.
Eucharistic Adoration is open to all and is held on Tuesday from 8 am to 7 pm.
If you are interested in becoming an adorer or would like to have more information about Eucharistic Adoration at Sacred
Heart Church, you may contact Joann Di Liberto at 610 932 8962.

Sacred Heart’s Centennial Celebration
Plans are underway to celebrate Sacred Heart’s Centennial Celebration. Consider lending your time and talents to the Centennial Committee as plans are in the making to kick off a year long celebration starting on Saturday evening, June 6th,
2015, and continuing thru out the year until the closing in June 2016. Sacred Heart’s official anniversary is June 15, 2015.
Consider being “part of the heart,” as our committee seeks volunteers that are willing to lend their time and talent and treasures. We need a wide spectrum of expertise to make this a celebration to remember.
Sacred Heart’s Collectable Christmas Ornament Sacred Heart’s Centennial Committee will be selling a collectable 2014 Christmas ornament that highlights the original Sacred Heart Church on Broad Street in Oxford. The ornament depicts the Sacred Heart of old. There is a limited number of the keepsake ornaments offered. The cost of the glass Christmas ball is $12 each and will be available after Mass by a Centennial Committee member. We will also be taking pre-orders on a tapestry that will depict the old Sacred Heart Church, the current Sacred Heart Church and the school. Please consider joining the Centennial Committee and see how you can be a part in making this celebration a year to remember.
