My name is Ms. Garos. I was born and raised inPalm Harbor, FL. I love the beach and I love to travel. Iwent to the University of Central Florida where Igraduated with a degree in Elementary Education. Ispent the first two years of my career teachingreading and language arts at Clearwater High School.After that I left Florida for two years ago to teachEnglish in Madrid, Spain. I am now entering my 6th yearof teaching and I am excited to start my second yearat Plato Academy teaching science, social studies, health,and reading groups. My goal is to help broaden mystudents’ knowledge and perspective of the natural,physical and social world by facilitating critical thinkingand hands-on learning in a fun, safe environment.

All work completed inclass will be checked periodicallyfor completeness. Social Studiesand Health assignments will be donein class as whole group and/orindividually as center work. AnySocial Studies or Healthassignments not finished in classwill have to be completed forhomework and turned in the NEXTDAY. Assignments and homeworkturned in late will lose points. Therewill also be participation gradesearned at any given time for allsubjects.

My name is Mrs. Gregory and I am your child’s mathteacher for this school year. I was born in Rhode Islandand moved to Florida when I was eighteen to enjoy thesunshine verses the snow. My husband and I have beenmarried 9 years. We have three beautiful sons Zachary(7), Dash (4), and Maverick (2). I graduated from St.Petersburg College with degree in Elementary Educationwith a reading and ESOL endorsement. This is my sixthyear at Plato Academy. I love the family like atmospherehere; it is the perfect learning environment for bothstudents and teachers. I have high expectationsacademically and behaviorally for my students. I love andrespect all students as if they were my own children. Ipush students to reach their highest potential and teachthem that mistakes are okay and it is through themthat real learning happens.

CLASS WORKClasswork also referred to as center work, isassigned daily in the form of a math book pageand computer work. All center work is due onFriday before 3:00pm. Work that is notcompleted by Friday can be turned in late forpartial credit. In continuation of highexpectations, papers with no name will be hungup in our “paper pound” to be reclaimed. It isyour student's responsibility to put their nameon it and turn it back in. All papers with no namewill lose ten points. It will be your studentsresponsibility to find their no name paper onthe designated wall.

language arts teacher this school year. I was born andraised in Pinellas County. I graduated from theUniversity of Central Florida (Go Knights!) with aBachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Ireceived my Masters of Arts Degree in ReadingEducation from the University of South Florida in 2013. Iam very excited to be part of the Plato Academyteam again. Our campus is beautiful and our classroomis the perfect place for the important learningenvironment that we will be creating this year.

This year in fourth grade students will be expected to be on time daily to practice their

reading skills everyday using the Pearson curriculum and other resources. Students will be

assessed each week on these skills.

Classwork will be composed of interactive notebook notes, graphic organizers, and workbook

pages. All work completed in class will be checked periodically for completeness. Students are

responsible for putting their name on all classwork that is turned in in order to receive full

credit.

Classroom Rules

Student who choose not to follow class rules and expectations will not be

able to earn points for the day. They will also complete a behavior form.

Behavior forms will be sent home for parent signatures and kept on file.

Three behavior forms could result in a behavior referral. Consequences will

be assigned accordingly.

* Severe infractions will result in immediate referral to the office.

Homework will be given weeklyand can be completed well byyour child..

Homework will be posted on eachteacher’s website and in eachteachers class-room.

Homework is due on the morning ofthe due date assigned..

Late homework will receive half credit ifone day late. Other late homework willresult in a zero.

ABSENCES Children will miss school, however, please ensure that school isonly missed if it is absolutely necessary. Any work that thestudent can make up at home will be in the absent studentbin. It is the student’s responsibility to check the bin tocomplete any make up work. All other work missed (writinglessons, tests, big assignments) must be made up before orafter school or during class time or a zero will be placed inthat assignment’s spot. It is your student’s responsibility toask the teacher for missing assignments. No work will be givenahead of time for pre planned absences or unexcusedabsences.We follow the school policy that states that zeroes will beentered into the gradebook for any assignments, quizzes andtests completed during an unexcused absence. Unexcusedabsences include: out-of-school suspensions, family vacationsand outside of school appointments. The student will not havethe opportunity to make up that work if the absence isunexcused. In case of an illness please email us informing uswhen and why your child will be absent due to the illness andinclude a doctor’s note if possible to excuse this absence.

STANDARDS

The fourth-grade team will be working hard to meet thenecessary instructional needs given to us through theLanguage Arts Florida Standards, Math Florida Standardsand Science Florida Standards. Please refer to the FLDOEwebsite for more information about learning expectations.Additionally, you may access information about ourstandardized testing format, including a sample test, atwww.fsassessments.org.

Plato Academy Schools utilizes Pearson for our K-5, inaddition to innovative teaching methods, and through theSocratic method of teaching, our students gain a thoroughcommand of reading, mathematics, science, writing, socialstudies and language arts throughout their years at PlatoAcademy. We will be challenging the children to excel totheir greatest potential. While our expectations forsuccess are high, we plan to incorporate stress relievers,so that learning is creative and fun.

When using school computers, thestudent may only access approvedwebsites and software that arerelevant to the unit of study.

The computer has settings pre-established and are not to be changed(backgrounds, screen savers, pointer,etc.)

Misuse of the computer will result inparent contact and possible loss ofcomputer privileges.

Website Link

Communication is key to being able to provide optimum student support. We

will use the classroom webpage, ClassDojo and a weekly update to

communicate. This two places are where we will post all news and announcements for the upcoming week to keep up with

classroom events, important information, and homework.

Conferences will be available during specific blocks of time.We will notify you via email when these will be. At that timeyou need to sign up for the day and time that works bestfor you. We do all conferences in a team format so we cancover all aspects about your student at the same time.Homeroom is not a time to have a conference with ateacher. During this time, we are taking care of little thingsthat allow our day to run smoothly; attendance, lunch andbreakfast count, to name a few. If you need to schedule aconference please email us and again we will work togetherto plan a day and time that is mutually agreeable.

There are strict requirements for chaperones, including being Level 2 screened. 10

We will respond back to your email within 24-48 hours during school days.

Grades will be posted weekly; be sure tocheck Portal weekly to stay up to date.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONSBirthdays are a time to celebrate. Ifyour student would like to share atreat, please notify all teachers inadvance. Treats will be shared atlunchtime so please bring enough for allstudents (66). We prefer for treats tobe small and if possible individuallyportioned such as donuts holes,cupcakes, cookies, etc. for easydistribution. If you prefer somethinglarger such as cookie cake, sheet cake,etc. please be prepared to come in toserve. As yummy as they are, nohomemade treats. Thank you!
