    Yuzhno-Uralskiy Heavy Engineering (YUMZ) is one of the largest Russian heavy engineering enterprises. It specializes in production of equipment for treatment and handling of loose materials, continuous casting machines (CCM), sintering machines; steel-smelting equipment, blast-furnace equipment, by-product coke equipment, forming rolls, forged pieces, and casts.

    Today Yuzhno-Uralskiy Heavy Engineering is a high-powered production complex with its own engineering center.

    The structure of the Design Service includes the following design departments:

    equipment.There are more than 250 workers employed in the

    Design Service, including 220 designers directly making drawings for new machines.

    Key dates of Yuzhno-Uralskiy Heavy Engineering:1942 — Orsk Heavy Engineering Works was founded.1959 — The biggest steel ladle in the world was manufactured. Its capacity was 220

    tons and the weight 25 tons. There was weight-capacity ratio. 1959 — The first continuous casting machine (CCM) for NLMK was

    manufactured. 1961 — Lenin prize was given for working out continuous bar-and-billet

    rolling mills. 1965 — Continuous bar-and-billet rolling mills 900/700/500 were commissioned

    in Krivoi Rog and Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (ChMK). 1966 — The first production prototype of continuous casting machine combined

    with rolling mill was manufactured and commissioned in Omutninsk Metallurgical Plant as continuous casting machine for square billets.

    1966 — The works gained a government award – the Order of the Red Banner of Labor for stable performance of all government orders and contractual deliveries on time and with good quality.

    1968 — The first supply of export CCM (for Tube – Rolling Plant in Riza, German Democratic Republic).

    1971 — 27 items with the mark of YUMZ received the highest estimation for quality of performance State Quality Mark.

    1972 — Supply of ore blending, blast-furnace, sintering equipment and of 3 CCMs for complete cycle metallurgical plant in Esfahan (Iran).

    1973 — The blast furnace in Novolipetsk was commissioned. 4500 tons of equipment were supplied for it.

    1974 — Equipment supply for metallurgical plant in Iskenderun (Turkey) multi-purpose transfer-reclaiming machines, pile stackers, blending machines, sintering and blast-furnace equipment, CCM complexes).

    1976 — The unit consisting of 3 CCMs was commissioned in metallurgical plant of Gzelezara-Zenitsa (Yugoslavia). They were the first CCM designed completely by the plant.

    1984 — The giant of industry - the CCM complex of the new generation for Oskol Elektrometallurgical Plant with output of 2,4 millions ton of billets per year were commissioned.

    1984 — The first CCM with 6-strand in USSR was manufactured for Moldavian metallurgical plant.

    1986 — Megaprojects concerning supply of 5 CCMs for Bhilai Metallurgical Plant (India) and of blending, transfer-reclaiming, CCM and coke plant equipment for Metallurgical plant in Karachi (Pakistan) was finished.

    1992 — 6 CCMs manufactured by ORMETO-YUMZ were commissioned in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

    1993 — Stock Corporation Yuzhuralmash was founded. 1998 — Certification of quality of some products in accordance with international

    standards. Lloyd’s Register certificate was obtained.1999-2000 — Two sintering machines of МАК-75 type were supplied for JSC

    ChMK in Chelyabinsk.2000 — Due to active marketing policy new trade mark was created (ORMETO-

    YUMZ trademark). 2001 — Out-of-furnace steel treatment and degassing complex was commissioned. 2003 — Reconstruction of CCM in the electric steel-smelting shop of enterprise

    “Severstal” was awarded to a prize of еру Russian Federation Government in the sphere of science and technology.

    2003 — Supply of sintering machine of MAK-75 type for JSC Visokogorsky GOK (Nizhniy Tagil).

    2004 — Bucket-wheel stacker-reclaimer 1200/1500 and conveyor coupled with it for project implementation “Enlargement of store yard of coal concentrate of coke and by-product process” for JSC “NLMK”, Lipetsk was put into operation.

    2004 — Stepwise reconstruction of sintering machine K4-50 was completed for nonferrous metal works in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The joint project with SMS-Demag was carried out on the reconstruction of slab casting machines for JSC “Ural Steel”.

    2004 – 2006 — Supply of 4 sintering machines of МАК-138/240 type for JSC ChMK Chelyabinsk.

    2005 — Ore stock yard reconstruction of JSC “ChMK”, Chelyabinsk, was carried out with delivery of equipment, that allowed releasing a current technology of the charge material preparations for sintering and blast furnace processes. Reconstruction of slab casting machines JSC “Severstal”, in Cherepovets was completed.

    2005 — CJSC “Metalloinvest” purchased 100% shares of JSC “Heavy Engineering ORMETO-YUMZ”.

    2008 — Cooperative engineering with SMS-Demag of combined bloom CCM in JSC Ural Steel.

    2008-2009 — Manufacturing development of mud pumps and drawworks for fuel-and-energy company.

    2009 — Manufacturing development of overhead cranes for metallurgical industry and power engineering.

    2009-2010 — Supply of belt conveyor, including main feed conveyor of blast furnace for JSC NLMK.

    2009-2010 — Supply of integrated equipment for coal yard for JSC Zaporizhstal Ukraine.

    2009-2010 — Supply of sintering machine of МАК-60/120 type for Stock Company TNK KazChrome, Kazakhstan.

    2015 — — Supply of 4-girder EOT cranes of 140/50 and 200/63 tons capacity for Esfahan Steel Company (ESCo) (Esfahan, Islamic Republic of Iran).

    — Supply of equipment package under YUMZ trademark for discharge complex of TPP Sovetskaya Gavan project of JSC “RusHydro” (Khabarovsk region).

    2016 — Upright converter of 320 t capacity for steelmaking has been manufactured for JSC EVRAZ-ZSMK, Novokuznetsk

    — Supply of equipment for two material discharging complexes: EuroChem Murmansk Bulk Terminal (Russia) and STREK Riga Dry Cargo Terminal (Latvia).

    Metallurgical production includes:

    Casting and melting workshop, containing: electric furnaces with holding capacity 50 t; 12t; 3t; 1,5t; complex steel processing facility (ladle furnace) holding capacity 70 t; vacuum vessel; cupola with forehearth capacity 5 t; as well as a bay of non-ferrous casting with electric furnaces 500 kg capacity for melting of carbon, alloy and high-alloy steels and cast irons. The workshop produces steel castings, foundry goods and non-ferrous alloy castings. The workshop contains the plants for preparing of liquid self-hardening and cold-hardening mixtures; bays of machine and hand molding.

    Complex of special metallurgy, consisting of: 1. electron-beam furnace EBF (ЭСП) — 30/2500 — И1.

    The principle of metal and special alloy remelting under high vacuum, using electron beam energy is used in the furnace. This complex make possible to produce steel, titanium, copper slabs and ingots. Furnace capacity is designed for 4,5 ths tons per year;

    2. multi-purpose modular complex of electro-slag remelting ESR (ЭШП) 15/30. This complex includes installation fitted with multilayer control system of operational procedures, based on control of objective characteristics of metal and slag, including temperature and oxidation, level, control of primary cast structure due to bath shape control in wide band.

    Small weight iron, steel and non-ferrous castings are manufactured in the shop.

    Thermal-and-chipping shop where the product processing is carried out after casting. The shop contains shotblasters, hydraulic chambers – used for surface treatment of moulded pieces, heat-treatment furnaces.

    Heavy press shop includes steam-hydraulic press with force 800 t and 3000 tons, and hydraulic press with force 6000 which are used for producing heavy weight forgings.

    Pattern shop, where wooden and metal patterns for casts are produced.

    Production of forming rolls includes:

    Machine-treatment workshop with equipment for roughing and finishing of hot- and cold-forming rolls.

    Heat-treatment workshop including:— vertical gas and electric furnaces;— horizontal gas bogie-type furnaces for thermal treatment of hot-

    and cold-forming rolls;— induction power-current hardeners ТПЧ-700, ТПЧ-1500;— electric oil baths.

    Welding engineering includes:Blanks production shop, machining shop, assembly-and-

    welding shop. Production has a necessary set of technological and materials

    handling equipment, which enables to produce welded units of a high degree of readiness to further processing in machine-assembly departments or finished products for shipment to the Buyer directly.

    Metalwares from rolled metal and composite (rolled products + forgings + castings) metalwares with weight up to 125 tons with heat treatment for metallurgical, hoisting-and-handling, oil-and-gas production equipment, building industry from structural steels of pearlitic class (sort) and in less of austenitic class (sort). The most applied steel grades: Зпс, сп; 5пс, сп; 20; 09Г2С; 17Г1С; 10ХСНД; 25Л; 35Л; 14Х2ГМРЛ; 12Х18Н10Т.

    The following welding methods are used in welded metalworks production:

    • machine welding in carbonic acid medium with wires of solid cross-section and powder materi-als;

    • machine welding under the melt layer;• manual arc welding with electrodes;• manual argon and arc welding with non-melting electrode;• electroslag welding (with combination of parts with thickness up

    to 800mm in joint point);• contact spot welding;• arc manual and machine hard surfacing by welding, coated

    electrode, filler and solid section wires surfacing;• powder materials plasma-jet hard-facing; • machine arc hard surfacing (chromium carbide and tungsten

    carbide based) powder belt. Specialists and welders are qualified for welding works of the above-

    mentioned equipment according to (within system) National Agency of Non-destructive Testing and Welding.

    Welding procedures of hazardous technical devices (hoisting-and-handling, oil-and-and-gas producing, metallurgical equipment and building structures) are certified according to (within system) National Agency of Non-destructive Testing and Welding.

    In 2012 new hydraulic 4-roll sheet-bending machine by Italian company Roссia Srl was installed:

    • maximum bending thickness is 85 mm,• maximum sheet width is 3100 mm,• power is 120 kW.

    Tool production includes: Two workshops manufacturing various standardized and special

    cutting tools, die tooling, press molds and production accessories required for manufacturing of various products.

    Four workshops where machining of the parts of produced equipment is done and three assembly shops where assembly and adjustment of produced equipment and its painting and packing are done.

    Quality control department of mechanical assembly and welding production, quality control department of metallurgical production, central plant laboratory, metrological service, quality management system department.

    The main task of the Quality Service is to influence all the stages of production manufacturing in three directions: quality ensuring; quality control; improvement of quality of production.

    The quality of goods with mark YUMZ is achieved by providing it on all the stages of production manufacturing (beginning from elaboration of technical documentation and up to sale, supply and commissioning).

    YUMZ is certified to ISO 9001:2008 quality management certificate for compliance to international standards.

    Sintering and pelletizing equipment Purpose of equipment

    Sintering equipment is intended for production of agglomerate, which is essentially the main part of burden in blast furnaces. The equipment has the following functions: preparation and agglomeration of sinter mix, cooling, crushing and sorting of sinter.

    Pelletizing equipment is designed for raw material preparation, production and high temperature hardening of green pellets from ore concentrates.

    Intended for primary, medium and fine crushing of rocks, solid fuel, fine crushing of ore and other minerals and used in steel, mining, building, chemical, cement industries and other manufacturing sectors.
