A Foundation Apprenticeship takes two years to complete, is the same level of learning as a Higher (SCQF level 6), and is one of your subject choices. As you work towards a qualification you will spend time out of school at college and with a local employer. The Social Services, Children and Young People foundation
Apprenticeship is a qualification for people who wish to in a variety of childcare environments. The qualification covers all the generic knowledge that everyone working in the field needs, and that all employers look for.
Pupils should have achieved National 4 subjects and be working towards National 5 subjects and above at the same time as studying this course.
�� Child Development and Health �� Play and Learning�� Rights and Protection and Safeguarding�� Social Context for Learning and Development
�� Wednesday and Friday�� 1:00pm - 4:00pm
This course can prepare you for work in the areas of employment that deal with childcare in the environment. For example, if you complete this course successfully and would like to undertake further study, you can apply for:
�� NC Early Education and Childcare�� Higher Social Care Level 6�� Modern apprenticeship �� HNC Childhood Practice (must also have 2 Highers)�� HNC Social services (must also have 2 Highers)
If you have the appropriate entry requirements, you will be interviewed for this course and this will involve:
�� A welcome and introduction from Head of Sector�� A written exercise – short paragraph answers to three questions�� A personal interview
Your written exercise and personal interview will be graded to establish your suitability for the course.
Get the hands-on experience and skills that employers want �� gain a qualification recognised by employers �� work on real projects with local employers�� Step into an exciting and growing industry that needs skilled
people
Broaden your options and get a head start in your career�� Get a taste of your chosen career before you leave school
while also getting your National 5s and Highers�� Get option to apply accelerated entry to a Modern
Apprenticeship after successfully completing your Foundation Apprenticeship�� Help your application and personal statement for college or
university stand out from the crowd�� Develop useful industry contacts and improve your job prospects
after you leave school
Try out a different way to learn out of the classroom and into a real workplace�� Develop self-confidence, problem-solving and leadership skills�� Meet people from other schools, college and the workplace�� Take on more responsibility as a work colleague and team member
