INTRODUCTION Forum mall at Bangalore is one of the most famous and the busiest and attractive mall in South Indian Paradise. The forum mall is the first mall in south India which started multiplex theatres. It has eleven screens of P.V.R cinemas with daily shows in six languages. The forum mall is a 650,000sq.ft complex in four floors consisting both shopping and entertainment under one roof. It is one of the first large scale mall in India and one of the busiest shops in Bangalore. On weekdays, about 35000-40000 people visits forum mall. Weekends, the crowd will exceed 75000. The crowd of the mall greatly depends on the PVR Cinemas. A complete shopping experience along with entertainment under one roof was their concept. Bangalore city was in its developing stage when the prestige group thought about constructing a big scale shopping Centre. More elements on the lobby include corridors, atriums, lobbys and shops.The atrium acts as a focal point for any person to set as a meeting spot.

The second floor houses the grand floor court that can be accessed from both first floor and multiplex.

The shops are zoned in such a way that there is proper distinction for electronic goods and accessories are situated on one side of the atrium and garments on the other side.

INFRASTRUCTUREB+G+4 structure. 645,000sq.ft of total area building form is response to the site layout. There is good landscaping within the limitations of urban setbacks. Interactive spaces are found prior to the entrances. The mall is well linked with a multilevel car parking starting right from the basement. Electricity to the mall is supplied via the transformer placed in south east corner of the site. The mall satisfies all the needs for water with the help of water treatment plant situated at terrace.

THE MALLThe forum mall is a 6,50,000sq.ft complex in four floors consisting both

shopping and entertainment under one roof. It is one of the first large scale mall in India and one of the busiest spots in Banglore. On weekdays, about 35000- 400000 people visit this mall. Weekends are for the PVR cinemas.

The forum is a place one can go to for almost anything one wants to buy. The mall has everything from shoes to exercise equipments, from home furnishings to electronic goods, from books to video games.

The crowd puller landmarker which houses everything from soft toys to office stationery to CDs, is a prime example of the complete experience that the forum provides to its visitors. One can indulge one’s taste buds at Transit, KFC, Pizza Hut or the forever crowded Mc D, the first one in the south. The Tansit, infact provides Banglorians with a never before experience. With its huge food court and eclectic cuisines, it can cater to almost every taste bud in the world.

Global brands like Westside, Soch, Isis, Mustard, Weekender, Provogue and Benetton succeed in bringing contemporary world fashions to Banglore and its beautiful people. The master builders also deserve the credit for being the first ones to bring the world’s renowned brand of Tommy Hillfiger to south India.

The interior has an open feeling due to the multi height lobby and the glass works. The atriums of the mall are done in glass which provides maximum views of shops in other levels which contributes a lot to the lightning in the mall.

The atriums are used as an exhibition space at times which offers a good view from all the levels in the mall.

The escalators are placed in such a way that the customers can move in a flow covering most of the shops.

INFERENCE:The mirrored planning of the mall enables is maximum in flow of customers from both enterances.

Zoning is in such a way that the customer enjoys free movement with natural lightning and well-conditioned air.

The floor schemes has been worked out in such a way that every shop gets attention from the customer who walks on.

An atmosphere of confusion is created as one sets foot on a floor due to the similar orientation of the escalators.

The corridor around the atrium as a minor shake owing to high live loads on the cantilevered floor.

MULTIPLEX THEATRE:

Theatre complex on the third floor shows movies in three classes of screening halls:-• Gold class• Europa• Classic

The theatres are backed strongly with the DTS technology of sound for maximum audio effect. These theatre will not only feature the latest in English and regional movies but would also screen star specials.

INFERENCE:The theatres are zoned properly on the third floor rendering perfect

acoustics efficiency. Each theatre is capable of holding several people within the lobby itself. Proper restroom facilities have been implemented according to the standards.

FOOD COURT:The vast food court with three capacity of 800 is facilitated with 13 kiosk

which serves delicies of different varities.The food court named Transit has a thematic enterance of an airport Transit lobby.There is an exterior annexture for food court which opens out into the secondary atrium.

There is also separate comer near to the window façade were a good view of the exterior can be experienced.Service ducts for air conditioning and electricity have been exposed there by blending with the designed interior.

INFERENCEIn the food court, a good ambience is obtained through the stylized

interior giving an international profile.

However during peak hours there is difficulty created for the customers due to inadequate capacity.

The zoning of the toilet is not to the comfort.

GAMMING AREA AND KIDS ZONE:The gamming arcade is situated on the first floor.

This arcade serves as another entertainment area in the mall other than the multiplex complex.

The kids play area is also annexed with the arcade for little children.

The gamming arcade provides stimulation games of the latest trend.

INFERENCE:being small in area this place experiences over crowding of kids and adults

during peak hours.There is a separate lobby for the gamming arcade from the main mall corridor.

PARKING:Parking facility is constituted by 3 entries and exit points and 6

storied multilevel car parking system.

There is ample space to park 800 cars and 700 two wheelers.

The parking facilities has proper fire extinguishers, surveillance and security toll gates provided.

INFERENCE:The multilevel car parking is highly efficient with two ramps and wide

taxing that are built lobby according to standard hence delivery smooth flow of vehicles in and out of mall.

WATER SUPPLY:Water is obtained through hour pump.Water is stored in underground sump & overhead tank.Purification of water is done in the following method.Water from the bore pump is fed into a tank with sand &

aggregates and then passed to tank with carbon & resin. This is sent to the sump for further purification and the purified water is sent to the overhead tank.

POWER HOUSE:Electricity to the forum is supplied from the substation located at the rear of the building.Sub transformer of 250kV is connected to the power room.

HVAC:The air conditioning cycle begins when the fans forces air into the

duct work leading to openings In the room. These openings are called outlets and terminals. The air is directed from the duct work through these outlets and into the room where the air either heats or cools the room needed.

Dust particles in the room enter the air stream and are carried along with it. The air then flows from the room enter the air stream and are carried along with it. The air then flows from the room through the second outlet or return outlet.

Dust particles are removed from the air by a filter installed in the ductwork. After the air is cleaned, it is either heated or cooled depending on the requirements of the room.

If the heated air is too dry moisture can be added by installing shallow pans in the bonnet above the combustion chamber or in the ductwork after the coil. The pans are automatically filled with water to a preset level. This moisture is added to air by the process of evaporation as the air passes over the pans.

AC PLANT:The forum mall has a centralized AC system. The AC plant is

situated in the basement. Two pipes of dia 300mm is used to carry water and chilled water that run upto a terrace. Where chilled tower is situated.

Water from the AC plant is also supplied to the fire safety pipes. The water of two water tanks of capacity 7000kL is used for the AC plant. Central plant comprises the equipments such as compressors, condensers, air handling units (AHU), water chillers and cooling towers. There are 2 AHU units present in the mall.

FIRE ESCAPE:The fire safety measures i.e. the precautions to be taken in case of a fire

accident in a mall should be designed carefully. Fire escapes can be achieved by smoke detectors, water sprinklers, rolling shutters and staircases.

In the building that has three fire escape staircases one near the AC plant, the other present where the generations were kept. Other fire escape staircase is near the exit this staircase is used only by the mall staff and is connected to the service area.

In a mall smoke detectors were placed at a regular intervals with a distance of 3m between them.Fire extinguishers along with water spray nozzles were present on each floor adjacent to the staircase, the water sprinklers were only present in the car parking area and the PVR cinema halls.

VERTICAL TRANSPORTATION:There are six pairs of escalators that ascends upto the recreational areas.There are 6 fire exits located at each floor- two at the front end, two at the centre and two at the rear ends.

GARBAGE CHUTE:The garbage chute of

30sq.m is found in the basement next to the sewage treatment plant within the garbage chute. There is a separation for wet and dry waste.

As a commercial complex produces a huge quantity of garbage there is a need for disposal at regular intervals where disposing the garbage fom the interior to the mall to the unloading bays became a misname.

Thus problem has been effectively tackled by providing a garbage chute which collects the waste from the entire mall and store is temporary. The chute is provided with a door and a door from the exterior for services, it is also well ventilated.

TOILETS:The toilets are the most essential part of service to the customers

visiting the mall. The toilets location and the ratio to the number of people visiting the mall are essential to be considered.

Toilets in service areas, parking areas, should be provided as they are essential staff toilets in the interior of the shop must be provided if the area of the shop is large. Shop of small area may not require separate area for toilet. Provision for physically handicapped should must be made by providing separate toilet for them.

TOILET IN BASEMENT FLOOR:

The service toilet is found in the basement floor near the loading bays. Both male and female toilets are found. These toilets are well lit and ventilated. This toilet is also clearly indicated by signage.

The driver’s toilet is also adjacent to the parking and the staff toilet. The driver’s toilet as a triangular unit found near the entrance to the basement parking.The gents toilet found in the second floor of the mall is clearly indicated to customers by using the signs. There are no toilets found in the ground floor. Were toilet for physically handicapped people is also provided in the mezzanine floor level.

INFERENCE:The toilets provided in this mall are as per the ratio given by the national

building code. The other regulation of provision for physically handicapped people is also provided in each floor was not found.

The signage for toilets are effectively used by placing in the customer flow regions. The lighting in the toilet is maintained to 90lux and it is also well ventilated.
