TWho is the NAPC?The NAPC is the only national organization devoted solely to serving the nation’s more than 3,000 local preservation commissions that steward more than one million historic resources nationwide. Through its program of education, training, and advocacy, NAPC helps local preservation commissions build stronger, healthier communities. NAPC provides technical support, manages an information network, and also serves as an advocate at federal, state and local levels of government to promote policies and programs that support local preservation efforts.

National Commission Forum: A biennial conference organized by NAPC with an audience of more than 500 participants. Forum is the only national conference dedicated to local preservation commissions and those who work for them. Its unique interactive format allows participants to discuss issues and develop solutions while receiving invaluable training and technical assistance. Forum is recognized as a significant event by other national preservation organizations, making it the premier conference for commission members nationwide.

Commission Assistance and Mentoring Program (CAMP): Since its inception in 2001, CAMP has trained more than 4,000 local commission members, staff, elected officials, and others. CAMPs are held throughout the United States on an ongoing basis and reach over 300 people annually. CAMP participants receive a large packet of reference material to use as they implement what they learn from NAPC’s core curriculum of four fundamental elements: the legal framework of public preservation, identifying and protecting historic resources, commission role and responsibilities, and public support and outreach.

The Alliance Review: Published six times per year, The Alliance Review is the primary vehicle of communication with our membership, and is distributed to over 2,000 commissions and businesses through regular mailings and at national and state conferences and workshops around the country. It includes substantive articles written by preservation practitioners as well as extensive information about current trends in the field.

Advocacy: By working with our national partners, the NAPC provides a voice for local preservation commissions and ensures that local commissions help shape national preservation policy. Our advocacy efforts support local commissions and help them succeed.

National Preservation Conference: The NAPC conducts several education sessions and workshops at the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s annual conference and maintains a presence in the exhibit hall.
