Fort Snelling Cadet Squadron MARCH 2007 Vol. 4 No. 3 Monthly Newsletter of Fort Snelling Cadet Squadron- Minnesota Wing Civil Air Patrol Auxiliary United Sates Air Force Commander’s Comments Capt Kline “Heroes of our Country” Cadets, one of the first ribbons you will wear on your uniform will be that representing General John Francis Curry. General Curry was born April 22, 1886 in New York City. Graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point and was commissioned a 2Lt. of Infantry on February 14, 1908.He served as the Chief of Staff, War Department, Washington DC from 1936 to 1938. Assigned overseas in July of 1943 where he lead our field forces from his Allied Headquarters in the Mediterranean. He returned to the United States assigned to Headquarters Army Air Forces, Washington DC. In 1941 Major General Curry was selected as the first National Commander of the newly formed CIVIL AIR PATROL. He was the main reason for keeping CAP active during the entire war and beyond. Under his superior command he mobilized 100,000 private pilots for non-combatant service, thus freeing military pilots for wartime duty Thanks to the vision of John F. Curry and others like him, CAP remains to our Nation’s number one VOLUNTEER FORCE! Having earned this ribbon you are now part of this proud tradition of honor and spirit that shall never die across this great Nation of ours. I am truly proud to be your Squadron Commander. NASA’s Atmosphere Research Aircraft B-57B “Our World’s Changing Atmosphere” What is happening to our atmosphere that now all of our past weather trends are “out the window”? Scientists around the world have been studying this question for many years. Are we humans the cause of all this change, our Global Warming?
