I like to visit manycities in my countryand I think many ofthem are good places

for vacation.

One of the places whereI like to go is Boyac,my father lives there.

Boyac is a sea of fertilemountains on the

Eastern Range,decorated withthousands of coloursthat witnessed the

battles forindependence that gaveshape to SouthAmerica.

Its rich topography

exhibits the aromas of avast agriculturalproduction andlandscapes as majestic

as the desert of LaCandelaria

And El Cocuy snowpeak, around whichmany picturesquecolonial villages attractquite a number of

tourists.

Boyac is known as

"The Land of Freedom"because this region wasthe scene of a series ofbattles which led to

Colombia'sindependence fromSpain.

The first one took placeon July 25th, 1819 in thePantano de Vargas

and the final anddecisive battle knownas the Battle of Boyacwas fought on August7th, 1819 at Puente de

Boyac.

Boyac also has

numerous lakes whichinclude LakeTota, LakeSochagota , LakeFquene which isshared with the

department ofCundinamarca.

The largest tourist attraction is sportsfishing, especially for excellent rainbowtrout. It is also an attractive setting forengaging in water sports and sailing. Afishing and nautical sports championship

is held annually.

de LeyvaOne of the smallest

towns that betterpreserves memories of

old colonial times andexpresses the best ofSpanish influence isVilla de Leyva.

are celebratedthroughout of the year.

During the high season, it

is a place forentertainment and theenjoyment of localfestivities, such as theFestival del Viento y LasCometas, the Festival delas Luces, Astronoma,

and Cine (wind and kites,lights, astronomy, andfilm festivals,respectively).

During the low season, it is a place forrelaxing, strolling cobblestone streets, andenjoying small, yet pleasant, restaurantsthat offer both typical and internationalfood.

Since the churches and temples of Tunja exhibit thebest of the beautiful architecture inherited from the

Spaniards, it constitutes an excellent option forreligious tourism. Among others, the temples ofSanta Clara La Real, San Francisco, San Laureano,and Santa Brbara stand out.
