§  Gee (2011): “Students who received the complete outline before the lecture took significantly fewer personal notes than did students who received the outline after lecture, though both groups performed similarly on factual and application tests”

§  Carrier, Williams, & Dalgaard (1988): “…many students (and many teachers) believe that writing down new information in their own fashion helps them learn”

* you can encourage students to take notes on what's important (application, synthesis, evaluation) not by

simply writing down what appears on the slide
