B. Claim your AccessIT ID:

1. Go to my.fordham.edu and click on “New user: Claim account” in the Secure Access Login box. Follow the prompts, and when you get to the screen where

it asks you to enter information to verify your account, please make note of the following:

a. First and Last Name: Use the exact name you put on your LL.M. application. If you aren’t sure, email us at [email protected].

b. Last 5 digits of SSN: If you do not have a U.S. social security number, or you didn’t provide one on your application, enter the last five digits of your FIDN.

c. Date of Birth: Note that the month comes first, then the day, then the year. For example, April 5, 1980 should be entered 04/05/1980.

d. ZIP/Postal Code: If you applied for the LL.M. program using a non-U.S. address, enter 77777.

e. Please be sure to write down and save your Access IT ID, because you will need it to log in to my.fordham.edu.

2. Once you complete this process, you should be able to log in to my.fordham.edu.

3. Do not delay! You must resolve any issues with your AccessIT ID well in

advance of registration. If you have trouble with this process, contact IT Customer Care by calling 718.817.3999.

C. Visit law.fordham.edu/llm/admittedapplicants – This webpage contains registration information and a wealth of other important information that you will need as you prepare to enroll in the LL.M. program.

D. Review the course schedule at law.fordham.edu/registrar:

1. Click on “Class Schedules” on the left.

2. Click on “Spring 2019” under “2018-19” class schedules to access a spreadsheet that sets forth all course offerings for spring 2019. Please note the following:

CRN: Each course has a unique CRN number. When you register, you will need to enter course CRN numbers

into my.fordham.edu. Be sure to note the CRN number for each of your courses well in advance of registration.

For a course description, to see if there are any prerequisites, and to see if there any seats available, click on the CRN number.

Credits: This represents the total number of credits that you will receive

for each course that you complete (see Part IV.A. for guidance on the total number of credits that you should take per semester).

Generally speaking, the number of credits will correspond to the number of hours the class will meet each week, with the exception of clinical courses, which are more time-consuming than ordinary coursework.

Day: “R” = Thursday “S” = Saturday “U”= Sunday

Conc/Prog: CC: Corporate Compliance BCF: Banking, Corporate, and Finance Law FASH: Fashion Law IBT: International Business and Trade Law IDR: International Dispute Resolution INLJ: International Law and Justice IPIT: Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law

Important re: Frequency of Course Offerings: Most courses are not offered more than once per year (there

are a few exceptions to this rule). If a course you wish to take is offered in the spring, we

recommend taking it then; otherwise you risk not being able to take it at all. This may include core courses for your program.

E. Note re: Courses Closed Due to Enrollment Limits:

1. Please note that we reserve spaces in some of these courses for incoming students (which are not reflected in the posted enrollment figures prior to the first day of registration for incoming students).

2. When you register, you may find that some courses are closed due to enrollment limits (you will receive an error message that says “FULL”). If you are unable to register for such a course after October 29, please keep checking back to see if spaces become available. There tends to be a lot of movement, especially close to the start of classes and during the first week of the semester. Prior to October 29, you may email Anthony Agolia at [email protected] to find out if seats have in fact been reserved for incoming students in any given course.

3. Do not approach professors, as they are not able to add you to their courses or to alter the priority for entry into a closed course.

4. Waitlist courses – From time to time, a few courses may be designated as

"waitlist" courses, meaning that once the course closes out at capacity, students will be placed on a waitlist and notified if spaces come available. Should you encounter a waitlist course, please refer to the registration guides on the Registrar's website (at http://www.fordham.edu/info/20751/registration_information) for instructions.

F. Check Your Registration – Courses that you have registered for may not show up in the “My Courses” section of my.fordham.edu until the start of the semester. To check your registration in my.fordham.edu, click on “Banner Self Service” under “My Information” and then “Student” > “Student Records” > “Academic Transcript.” Be sure to select “Spring 2019.”

G. Waivers:

1. Some courses have a prerequisite or a co-requisite. A prerequisite is a course

that students must take before they can enroll in the specified course. A co-requisite is a course that students must take at the same time as their desired course, unless they have already completed it.

2. You can determine if a particular course has a prerequisite or co-requisite by clicking on the CRN number. You will be directed to a screen that contains the course description and a list of any applicable prerequisites and/or co-requisites.

3. If you wish to take a course with a prerequisite that you have not yet taken, but you believe nevertheless that you possess sufficient requisite knowledge to

Page 5: FORDHAM LAW SCHOOL LL.M. PROGRAM Registration …FORDHAM LAW SCHOOL – LL.M. PROGRAM Registration Information for Incoming LL.M. Students, Spring 2019 I. Overview and Important Deadlines

5

follow the course, you may request a waiver of the prerequisite. Requests must include a detailed explanation of the basis for the request and any relevant supporting material, including your resume or CV or proof of having taken a similar course (e.g., a course syllabus and transcript). Such requests should be sent to Anthony Agolia ([email protected]), who will communicate them to the professor, in whose sole discretion such waivers will be made. These requests should be submitted as far in advance of registration as possible. Please note that such requests cannot be accommodated during the week of October 29, so incoming students are encouraged to submit such requests prior to that date.

The last two requirements (“Fundamental Lawyering Skills for LL.M. Students” and “2 credits of experiential coursework”) do not apply to students who are authorized to practice law in another U.S. jurisdiction or any other country outside of the U.S. Such students must be prepared to establish and submit proof that they have been in good standing and practiced law in that jurisdiction full-time for at least one year (or half-time for two years) following the student’s authorization to practice.

D. Writing Requirement and Professional Skills Option: 1. Required Only for Eligibility for Magna Cum Laude Honors:

a. There is no general requirement that students complete the Writing Requirement (WR) or a Professional Skills Course.

Page 10: FORDHAM LAW SCHOOL LL.M. PROGRAM Registration …FORDHAM LAW SCHOOL – LL.M. PROGRAM Registration Information for Incoming LL.M. Students, Spring 2019 I. Overview and Important Deadlines

10

b. Students who wish to be eligible for magna cum laude honors at graduation must either satisfy the WR or complete a Professional Skills Course. For additional information, please see the Graduate Student Handbook for LL.M. and M.S.L. Students at law.fordham.edu/llm-msl-handbook.

2. Writing Requirement (WR) Option:

a. We do not recommend completing a Writing Requirement course during the first semester of study unless you hold a J.D. from a U.S. law school.

b. How to satisfy the Writing Requirement (WR): i. Courses designated “WR” on the course list.

ii. Independent study under the supervision of a member of the full-time faculty (2 credits): Credits earned in this course do not count toward the 24-

credit minimum if you intend to sit for the NY bar examination based on Foreign Legal Education with the LL.M. degree.

You must consult with Anthony Agolia before choosing this option.

iii. Thesis under the supervision of a member of the full-time faculty (3 credits): Credits earned in this course do not count toward the 24-

credit minimum if you intend to sit for the NY bar examination based on Foreign Legal Education with the LL.M. degree.

11

ii. Clinics: Open to LL.M. students after their first semester of study. Look for information distributed by the clinic during the

semester prior to which you plan to enroll. For additional information, visit law.fordham.edu/clinics.

iii. Externships: Visit law.fordham.edu/llm/extern for information about

LL.M. externships. Students are discouraged, but not precluded, from pursuing

externship opportunities in their first semester of study.

E. General Advice Regarding Your Schedule

1. We recommend that you review the Course Evaluations from previous semesters before selecting your spring 2019 schedule. Course Evaluations are submitted by students after completion of the course in a prior semester, and can help you determine which courses and professors you wish to register for. You can access the Course Evaluations by going here: http://frd.hm/2e5BiwE. After logging in, select "Fall 2016 - Present" on the left hand-side to view the results.

2. Please carefully review the exhibits at the end of this document for information about your schedule. The exhibits are intended to provide a pathway to graduation and New York bar eligibility for full-time students. Students who do not follow this recommended sequence may not be eligible to sit for the New York bar examination upon graduation. Part-time students should consult with their academic advisor for individualized advice about how to meet these requirements.

F. Summer Courses

1. Full-time LL.M. students who commence their studies in January are permitted to

enroll in up to 4 credits of coursework during the summer term between the spring

and fall semesters. Such students pay only a small administrative fee for these

credits (typically about $200 per credit), provided they are enrolled as full-time

students in both the spring semester before and the fall semester after the

relevant summer term. In addition, such students may exceed the 30-credit

maximum by the number of credits they complete in the summer.

2. Although the summer 2019 course offerings have not yet been generated, we

tentatively expect the following courses to be offered:

i. Corporations ii. Professional Responsibility

iii. Fundamental Lawyering Skills for LL.M. Students

Page 12: FORDHAM LAW SCHOOL LL.M. PROGRAM Registration …FORDHAM LAW SCHOOL – LL.M. PROGRAM Registration Information for Incoming LL.M. Students, Spring 2019 I. Overview and Important Deadlines

12

G. Orientation and Academic Enrichment Materials

1. Much of the information and materials that you will receive during orientation can be found here. Materials will be added as we approach the beginning of the semester, so please bookmark this link and check back periodically for updated materials.

2. Please note that all orientation sessions are mandatory unless otherwise indicated on the orientation schedule, including evening sessions.
