Hello fellow Model A'rs
It's getting around to the time when we
will begin to turn our thoughts to spring and getting our A's out for the year.
The board has been busy lining up ac-tivities for the coming year. We have-
n't filled every month up yet, so if you have a tour or activity that you think the
club would enjoy, please let one of the
board members know about it. We have several good local tours lined up
that you won't want to miss. Some of these will have more information about
them in the newsletter. Make sure you
read about upcoming events and mark your calendar likewise.
This past week we had a good turn-out for our monthly eat out at Petrows
and also our annual Bunco party.
There were lots of good food and soups at the Bunco party and the 23 that were
present had a very good time. I'm sure that we'll be talking more
about getting our cars out and readying them for the coming summer months.
So keep thinking spring and I hope that
I see everyone at the next monthly meeting.
Lee From the Editor:
Can you feel the weather
starting to turn? I am trying to
decide which project I will
start with when the weather
warms up a bit.

newsletters or phone me on

President's Message
A couple drove down a country road in their Model A for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, “Relatives of yours?” “Yep,” the wife replied, “in-laws.”

Tech Talk News
The February Tech Talk concerned the choices
available for headlites, tail lites, and stop lites. A display of three headlites showed the difference between a regular headlite bulb, a quartz bulb, and a halogen bulb. A fourth option of using a sealed beam bulb behind the regular stock lens was also shown. Tail lite and stoplite options using regular bulbs, quartz, and halo-gen bulbs were also shown.
The March Tech Talk will be on rebuilding the transmission tower
in your Model A. We will cover the different styles of transmission
towers and check out areas which may need to be rebuilt. We will also cover the different styles of
emergency brake handles and the problems they develop.
February Women’s Activity Janet Graves organized heart warming activities to occupy the ladies after the February 12
th general
meeting. From “Romantic Movie Riddles” to “Red Trivia Questions” the Valentine related activities kept the ladies thinking and vying for the chocolate candy prizes. BINGO words and candy markers added to the Valentine theme to make it a “sweet” evening. Mary McKinney, Sherri Kunz, Karen Noodell, Judy
Beckman and Millie Jankowski mark their BINGO boards.
Is This a Chili Feed? On February 19 delicious smells were inviting as the club held a Soup Supper and Bunco Night. More than 20 club mem-bers had a great time sampling a variety of soups, breads, cheeses, veggies and desserts. Some loud laughing and a single hand high score of 51 points made the evening enter-taining and fun. The “keeper of the punch” ended up with the most wins, rewarding him with a “man purse”, (wait a minute, it was a tool bag). Great food and fun made a very enjoyable evening for all.
Don Graves punches Doug Heeren, & Jan Hartenhoff’s winning slips while Howard Denker and Judy Beckman look on with envy.

The Henry Doorly Zoo has contacted our club to help them celebrate an event called ZOOm. They
would like as many cars as we can get there from our club on Sunday, June 19. This is the day af-
ter the Benson Ford Show. The times are from 8:15 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The basic concept of the
event is to focus on different types of vehicles-and will also tie into the speed of the animals ( exam-
ple: A Cheetah can run up to 70 mph ). I'm not sure where that places the Model A!!!
They want to place cars among the exhibits and will escort us into place before the Zoo opens. You
can then stay with your car, or go throughout the zoo until 3:00 pm, when they will
escort us out to go home.
This will be an excellent opportunity to put our cars on display for the public to see.
I encourage as many members as possible to take advantage of this as possible.

Omaha is fortunate to have so many wonderful attractions to entertain its people. There is the Zoo, the Holland center, the Orpheum, the Durham Museum, the Omaha playhouse and the ConAgra Center to name just a few. Through March 20, 2011 the Durham Museum is featuring an exhibit titled “With Malice Toward None” This Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Exhibit comes from the Library of Congress and
traces Lincoln’s growth from prairie lawyer to preeminent statesman. The exhibit commemorates the 200
th birthday of America’s 16
th president. Included with the Durham exhibit is a free hourly shuttle
to the UPRR museum in Council Bluffs to view the UPRR Lincoln Collection. UPRR has long recog-nized its collection to Abraham Lincoln from 1862 when Lincoln signed the Pacific Railway Act creat-ing the UPRR to 1922 when silver from Lincoln’s funeral car was discovered in a UPRR vault. After returning from Council Bluffs we can take a short trip to the old market area and have lunch at the Spaghetti Works. The Durham Museum opens at10:00A.M.on Saturday so we can be one of the first to enter. Admission is $7.00/person or $6.00/person for those over

There is nothing like seeing how it gets done. Again the Meadowlark Model A Ford Club will have the opportunity to visit one of Omaha’s finest attractions for behind the scenes. On March 19, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. we will have the opportunity to visit the Omaha Playhouse back stage and see how it all happens. The tour will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. The Playhouse is located at 6915 Cass St. Prior to our tour we will meet at Jason’s Deli 7010 Dodge St. for soup, sandwich and self-serve soft ice cream at 11:45 A.M. That gives us time to eat and enjoy each other’s company prior to the tour. See you all on March 19, 2011 Sign up at the March meeting.

Model A Fashions for 1928 Wow! These 1928 summer fashions from the Bernard-Hewitt of Chicago are sure fancier than the ones in the Wards and Sears catalogs! These pretty dresses illus-trate several of the charac-teristics listed in Winnie Col-well’s Ladies’ Fashions 1928 pamphlet (which you can check out from our club library).
Irregular hemlines
Lots of pleats
Jabots & scarves
Lots of bows and
ruffles
Colors include ma-
hogany, rust, green
Heavy silk crêpe
And, look at those fancy bloomers and hosiery! On first glance, the prices looks really low, but then we re-member that a loaf of bread was about 9 cents, a Model A could be bought for $500, and the average yearly in-come was about $6,000 in 1928 (according to www.time.com). So, that pretty green dress that I want would have been about 0.1% of my salary (or probably my husband’s sal-ary). Still, I sure wish I could buy it.

March Eat Out
March 24
6:45PM In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, our eat out for March is at the BrazenHead Pub, a traditional Irish Pub with great food.
The BrazenHead is at 319 N. 78th
ST (the strip mall between Dodge and Cass, where the
New Tower Motel used to be). Sandwiches from $7.99, Fish & Chips, and more.
See http://www.brazenheadpub.com/ for more information. If you plan to attend, be sure to
sign up at the March meeting or call Don Graves (402-453-7166).
Tour to Bernie Taulborg’s Car Collection April 16
th is a tour you won’t want to miss. This time will be the last chance for most of us to
see Bernie Taulborg’s car collection because the majority of it is being moved out-state. Several of our members have visited this great collection, but it is always a treat because each time we go, we see something we missed the last time. Plan to attend this tour – you won’t be sorry you did. Bernie Taulborg's superlative collection of over 150 automobiles (all in running condition) and thousands of items of memorabilia distributed throughout eight buildings of a former dairy (or hog, depending upon the source) farm. We plan to meet at 10AM at the Harley Davidson dealership parking lot at 174
th & Maple. We
need to arrive at Taulborg’s in one group, so please be at the meeting place on time. Also, please bring a few $$ to put in the jar for Bernie’s favorite charity. If you have ques-tions, please call Don Graves (402-453-7166). PLEASE sign up at the meeting or call Don to tell him you will be joining the tour. It probably won’t be a surprise, but following the tour, we will have lunch at a near-by restau-
rant.
