About Wildsight

We care about our home. Not just the homes we live in, but the ecological homethat supports all life, all industry and all of us. That’s why we work hard for healthy human communities and healthy wild spaces here, in Canada’s Co-

lumbia and Rocky Mountains ecoregions. Our home.

We focus on three core areas:

The southern Canadian Rocky Mountains; The upper Columbia River Valley; The Columbia Mountains. This land, its mountains, glaciers, watersheds and wetlands, need special at-tention because they are among the most ecologically–rich in the world.

They are home to us and home to Western North America’s most diverse largemammal populations — the Crown of the Continent. Together, this land pro-

vides critical genetic connectivity.

Our actions

Advocate

We advocate protecting our region’s ecological values, because protecting these values protects the long–term viability of our communities.

Strengthen

We work with other groups — including First Nations, government and indus-try — because our work is more effective when environmental protection issupported by a broad constituency.

Participate

We join in government and community processes because biodiversity deservesa voice at all land–use tables.

Communicate

We organize outreach programs and media campaigns because public under-standing, pride and education leads to more support for the wise use of our land base.

Partner

We partner with environmental organizations from B.C., the U.S.A. and all over the world because local work is most effective when it ties in with provincialand international strategies.

F F oor r ccee oo f f N N aa t t uur r ee was launched for continuous transmission on the Internet on January 1 st, 2009. It is aseries of e–newsletters destined for the GG r r eeeenn SS p paa ccee I I nnd d uusst t r r y y, the eennvviir r oonnmmeennt t aa ll mmoovveemmeennt t , politicians,municipalities, and the media, nation–wide across Canada, and parts of the United States. F F oor r ccee oo f f N N aa --t t uur r ee is produced in two parts. First. The M M eed d iiaa R Ree p p oor r t t itself that reports on the current events affectingthe future of the GG r r eeeenn SS p p aa ccee I I nnd d uusst t r r y y.. Second. I I nnd d ee p p eennd d eennt t PP eer r ss p p eecct t iivvee.., which is a running com-mentary, sometimes also of a more technical in nature.

F F oo r r cc ee oo f f N N aa t t uu r r ee is the brainchild of William H. Gathercole and his entourage. The opinions ex-pressed in these e–newsletters, even though from an independent perspective, may not reflect those of everyone in the GG r r ee ee nn SS p p aa cc ee I I nn d d uu ss t t r r y y , or Mr. Gathercole’ s many associates. Be warned ! Mr. Gath-ercole and his team may sometimes be very irreverent and fearless with these e–newsletters.

William H. Gathercole holds a degree in Horticulture from the U U nniivveer r ssiit t y y oo f f GG uueell p phh, and another pure andapplied science degree from M M ccGGiillll U U nniivveer r ssiit t y y. He has w orked in virtually all aspects of the GGr r eeeenn SS p paa ccee I I nnd d uusst t r r y y, including public affairs, personal safety, and env ironmental issues. Mr. Gathercole has been aconsultant and instructor for decades. Mr. Gathercole has been following the evolution of eennvviir r oonnmmeennt t aa ll t t eer r r r oor r iissmm for over a quarter–century. His involvement in environmental issues reached a fevered pitch inthe 1990s, when he orchestrated, with others, legal action against unethical and excessive municipal regu-lations restricting the use of pest control products. ( i.e. the Town of Hudson. ) Although he can be ac-cused of being aa nnt t ii – – eennvviir r oonnmmeennt t – –mmoovveemmeennt t , he is, in fact, simply a strong advocate for the GGr r eeeenn SS p paa ccee I I nnd d uusst t r r y y. However, this position has not precluded him from criticizing the industry itself. Nonetheless, his vast knowledge of our long journey with environmental issues is uu nn d d ee nn ii aa bb ll ee . ( Hopefully ! ) Formany years, Mr. Gathercole has been a contributing columnist for T T U U R RF F && R Reecc r r eeaa t t ii oo nn Maga-zine, Canada’s Turf and Grounds Maintenance Authority.
