Miss Monique Godfrey

From November 2011 to Present . . . Where Is Monique Now?

Miss Monique Godfrey is the daughter of Dominic Godfrey,

granddaughter of Denise Godfrey, and sister of Aaliyah Page and

Dominic Godfrey. In June 2015, Monique completed the 8th grade at Churchland Middle School in Portsmouth as an Honor Roll student with

perfect attendance and a member of the National Honor Society. She received the Certificate of Excellence for Superior Academic Performance and Honor Roll

Membership and passed all of her SOL’s. In September 2015, she will be a raising

“Freshman” at I. C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth with all Honor classes.

Monique’s favorite pastimes include going to the mall and hanging out with her friends,

playing basketball with her Dad and brother, listening to music, texting, cooking, bowling,

and spending time with her Dad and family. At family gatherings, she enjoys entertaining her family and cousins. Monique loves helping the younger children and spoiling her

younger cousins. They all look up to her. Monique strives hard in all that she does. She loves being with and doing things with her grandmother, as well as helping others.

Monique is still very active with the Youth Development Ministry of New First Baptist.

She attends Sunday School Class, Youth Bible Study, and Vacation Bible School, singing with the Steelettes Youth Choir and participating with the Junior Missionary Ministry and

the Angels with Wings Praise Dance Ministry. Her favorite scripture is John 3:16, “For God

so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should

not perish, but have everlasting life” and favorite Christian song, “When Jesus Says Yes”

by Michelle Williams.

We want to continue to pray for Monique as she grows stronger each day in the Lord. Congratulations and many blessings to our Youth in the Spotlight, Miss Monique Godfrey.

Trusteette Dorothy L. Johnson

Fifty-eight years ago, Trusteette Dorothy L. Johnson

became a member of the New First Baptist Church

(Taylorsville) family. Trusteette Johnson (83 years of age –

Happy Birthday on July 19th) was married to Trustee Herman

Johnson (deceased). She is a loving and caring mother of three

sons, Michael, Richard, and David (deceased) and three

daughters, Beverly, Paulette, and Roslyn. She is also the grand

mother of ten, raising three from babies, Sadé and Shawn from one month

until present time and their sister, Shivawn from six months until age 21 and a great grand-

mother of seven. She loves all dearly and thanks God for her family and letting her live to

see them all well and healthy. Trusteette Johnson is the “Matriarch” of her family, one of

five children; her two brothers and two sisters are now deceased.

She was employed with the former GE Company in Suffolk and retired at age 65

from Raytheon Electronics. After staying home for two years, she decided to work with

the Portsmouth Public School System as a School Crossing Guard, retiring again after 14

years of service.

During her years at New First Baptist Church, Trusteette Johnson in 1984

organized the Hospitality Club (now known as the Hospitality Ministry) under the

leadership of Rev. Dr. T. Melvin Steele and served as the President/Ministry Leader for

over 20 years. Through this ministry, she was there to assist families in bereavement by

preparing and serving the repast, preparing meals for Vacation Bible School, Black

History Month, and other summer events as needed. For many years, she sang with the

Gospel Choir. Trusteette Johnson serves as Vice Ministry Leader of the Trusteette

Ministry and as an assistant to the Angels with Wings Praise Dance Ministry, shows her

love for the young ladies through encouragement.

Through her love for people and willingness to serve, she has worked with the Girl

Scouts in the church and community and assisted in a Prison Ministry with her daughter,

visiting prisons for over 20 years. One of her favorite pastimes was bowling; she bowled

on a league for many years at the former Portsmouth Bowling Alley.

Trusteette Johnson lives her life through her favorite scripture, Hebrews 13:5, “Let

your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have:

for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” and “The Lord Will Make a

Way Somehow,” which is her favorite Christian song.

What Trusteette Johnson loves about New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) –

The people are friendly, the praise dance ministry, choir singing to the Glory of the Lord,

the prayers of the Deacons, Associate Ministers, and the fellowship of the church.

Trusteette Johnson thanks God for keeping her in her right mind and a portion of

health and strength to continue to be there for her family and be able to help others. We

thank her for the service she has rendered to New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) and

continue to pray that the Lord will bless her in all her endeavors. Congratulations to our

“Senior in the Spotlight”, Trusteette Dorothy L. Johnson, we are thankful and blessed

to have her as a part of our church family.
