The church inside of current culture hastaken on many different faces and definitions.The most elementary theological definition ofcourse would be the translation of the Greekword ecclesia, which means called out ones.We can ascertain from this definition then thatthe church is people. We cant define thechurch by mission, vision, geographical location,

building or any other definition until we realizethat first and foremost the church is people.Gods creation and Word that said, Let us createman

God in his infinite wisdom consequently

created the family structure to give us a

overview of pro-creation for humanity. He also

gave us covenant, a word that I will use

interchangeably with marriage in this sermon,

to create a means by which pro-creation could

create family in a God-Like or Image-Likefashion.

The family unit gives us a paradigm in thenatural of what the church is in thespiritual. The church is comprised of people,

who make up families, which in a cellstructure create a church. Sociology hasdefined the evolution of any civilization orculture of the family in three basic

descriptions. The evolution or study of thefamily in this fashion was because of thedecline in the family unit.

) The trustee family, which is close-knit, tribal

and clan-like; 2) The domestic family, which is

centered around the nuclear family, but which

maintains close ties to the extended family;

and 3) The atomistic family, in which ties

outside the nuclear family have been greatly

attenuated. At the current moment, theatomistic family is the predominant type in

the West.

This sermon will deal with the spiritual natureof the family of God pro-creating. We willspeak of natural selection vs artificial selection

and the spiritual nature of a natural marriage. The church must pro-create, which has to do

with likeness and image.

If the family is in trouble, then the church is introuble. If the family is in trouble then peopleare in trouble.

The general characteristics of the person the churchis striving to reach include:

Essential ignorance of basic Christianity. Most people don't knowthe basics of the Bible or what Christianity is about.

Seeking for life before death. People fear extinction more than theyfear hell or seek heaven. They seek to get the most out of life now.

Having a greater consciousness of doubt than guilt. Guilt is viewedas a social problem but not a personal problem. People who feelguilty are more inclined to see a therapist to learn to deal with theguilt than to see a pastor or priest to find spiritual help.

Holding a negative image of the church. They doubt theintelligence, relevance, and credibility of the church and Christians.

For Those Who Run Part 13 Distrustful. Broken relationships, alienation, "getting burned" or

taken advantage of and manipulated lead to distrust.

Having low self-esteem. Loss of identity, worth, value and dignityare epidemic. This leads to selfishness and self-deception anddysfunctional behavior and relationships.

Feeling the world is "out of control." Assassinations, War, and othersuch events were surprising and shocking. The sense that the pastwas out of control leads to anxiety about the future.

Feeling that issues in their lives are "out of control." People haveissues in their own families and personalities that they can't control.Their sense of hopelessness becomes self-destructive.

Unable to find "the door." People are on a search for ultimatereality, life and God but cannot find the door

This church is made up of families, which aremade up of people. People who haveembraced the new life, the new creation

made possible by the person of Jesus Christ. While our outward appearance remains the

same, our inward man is renewed day by daybecause we are spiritually born again into thefamily of God

This is where were at.

paralleled with the disintegration of the

family. The strange thing to me is this book

was written in 1947 and yet rings more true

now than ever In his book Family and

Civilization he names eleven elements of thewhich I give to you (paraphrased in my

Marriage is therefore a spiritual system that dependson covenant.

Not to rob a woman of her identity

Not to give men a right to abuse their place

But a system to reflect the nature of Christ and thechurch in the spiritual realm.

Marriages have to align themselves with the Word sothat the Church can be seen in its proper perspective.

Covering, Protection, Intimacy, Submission You will notice that the same problems the natural

marriage is experiencing, the spiritual union of Christand the Church is experiencing.
