Introduction
GL Assessment’s Progress Test Series has beendesigned for use year-on-year to supportteachers in identifying levels of attainment andmonitoring progress. The tests for English andmaths are for students from age five to 14 andfor science from age eight to 14. Each serieshas been standardised on up to 35,000students across the UK and so provide reliableand accurate profiles of groups and individualsagainst national standards. This nationalbenchmarking will be crucial for schools whowant to track progress without NationalCurriculum levels.
A test of pupils’ technical English skills and readingcomprehension, our Progress Test in English (PTE)(formerly known as Progress in English – PiE) has becomeestablished as the standardised English assessment ofchoice in many schools. We have also developed a newversion of Progress Test in Maths (PTM) (formerlyProgress in Maths – PiM), designed to assess pupils’mathematical skills and concepts.
Using this progress testing series, year-on-year, provides areliable profile of pupils’ attainment in the core Englishskills, including phonics (for the youngest students),spelling, grammar, punctuation and readingcomprehension and the core maths areas, includingnumber, shape, data handling and algebra.
Ideal for monitoring progress over time and trackingindividual pupil progress, the Progress Test Series can beused to support teachers in identifying those in need ofextra help, as well as those that are particularly able.
The Progress Test Series have all new content and a newstandardisation. For current users of the progress tests, anequating study allows seamless transition from the currentto new tests and ensures consistency of data which hasbeen compiled over time. Close attention has been paid toensuring the new tests reflect curricula across the UK,including the new National Curriculum, making it up-to-date and highly relevant. Please note that levels ofattainment are reported separately for Scotland andNorthern Ireland.

"It's an added advantage that theProgress Test Series results also act asrobust evidence for Ofsted, demonstrating that this pupil, this classor this academy has made a certainamount of progress in key subjects fromone point to the next."
