Continuous improvements in oral health of Grampian population
Progress in 2016/17:
• Caring for Smiles training delivered in the majority of care homes in Grampian, with 15 achieving accreditation
• Pilots in several Aberdeen City PDS practices for ‘Making Every Opportunity Count’ (MEOC)

Improve access to high quality NHS Dental services
Progress in 2016/17:
• Ongoing promotion and evaluation of public registration campaign, which has increased the registration rate to 76.8%
• Special Care Dentistry Needs Assessment published with a number of recommendations
• Adult oral health survey carried out
Enhance and strengthen role of Oral & Dental Health MCN
Progress in 2016/17:
• Year of transition with new Clinical Lead and MCN Manager at the helm
• Review undertaken of MCN structure and governance processes to ensure a focus on priorities and adequate support in place to progress
The Oral and Dental Health MCN is responsible for taking an overview of these aims and targets, in order to provide support, direction and leadership as appropriate to the various teams and services involved.
This report provides a brief summary of the work undertaken in 2016/17, alongside the key priorities going into 2017/18. These achievements are only possible due to the hard work and enthusiasm of MCN members and other colleagues, which is greatly appreciated.

• Development of Teen TLC website with partners and service user involvement
Improve effectiveness and efficiency of quality improvement & assurance framework

• Establishment of Dental Performance Advisory Group, reporting into Clinical Governance structure
• SCI Gateway electronic referrals and nhs.net email accounts for all practices rolling out across Grampian

Unscheduled dental care review
Investigate options for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in anxiety management pathway
Establish an Education, Training & Development Group to lead on educational aspects of the workplan

Update of Teeth TLC website to ensure information is up to date
Further development of Teen TLC website
Consideration of potential links with services for people with long term conditions
Focus for 2017/18:
Development of improved clinical effectiveness processes to provide necessary audit and quality support to dental services and teams
Local participation in national development of quality standards
The NHS Grampian Dental Plan 2016 – 2022 was published in 2016 with five high level aims for oral health improvement and dental services in Grampian.
