ව කගුණ ලංවිදය ලං දර ර්ේ ම්තු ේ, ස්ෙභ විව ලංවිරත් ලංපිළිබඳ ලං ලංපූර්ෙ ලංඅනුරු ලංඇඟවී ම් ලංමධ්යස්ා නය විසිත 2019 අප්රේල් මස 28 වන දින සවස 03.30 ට නිකුත් කරන ලදී.

PLEASE BE AWARE!

The cyclonic storm named ‘FANI’ (pronounced as FONI) over southeast Bay of Bengal to the east of Sri Lanka,

was located near latitude 7.4N, Longitude 87.8E at 11.30 a.m. of 28th April 2019, about 660 km East of Batticaloa.

It is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 12 hours. The system is very likely to move

northwestwards off east coast of Sri Lanka and thereafter recurve north-northeastwards gradually.

General public, Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive about future advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.

FOR SEA AREA:

Wind and sea condition forecast for 29th April 2019

Wind speed will be (40-50) kmph in the deep and shallow Sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to

Pottuvil via Hambantota and sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via

Mannar. Above sea areas can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph at times.

Wind speed will be (90-100) kmph, gusting up to 120kmph over the Sea areas (within 200-300 km from

the center of the system) in the central part of south-west Bay of Bengal and the said sea areas can be

high to very high.

Wind and sea condition forecast for 30th April and 01st May 2019

Wind speed will be (120-130) kmph gusting to 145 kmph over Southwest Bay of Bengal and sea areas off

eastern and south eastern coast (within 200-300 km from the center of the system) from 30th morning;

Wind speed will be (150-160) kmph gusting to 175 kmph over Southwest Bay of Bengal and west central

Bay of Bengal sea area (within 200-300 km from the center of the system)on 01st May evening.

Wind speed will be (50-60) kmph, gusting up to (70-90) kmph can be expected over the sea area around

the island from 30th morning.

ADVISORY FOR NAVAL AND FISHING COMMUNITY

The fishermen are advised not to venture into deep and swallow sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Kankasanturai via Batticaloa and Trincomalee until further noticed.

The fishermen, who are in deep Sea of South-west Bay of Bengal, are advised to move safer sea areas.

The fishermen at other sea areas are requested to be attentive on future advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.

Wind speed will be 25-35 kmph in the sea areas around the island. Fairly rough seas can be expected in the south-eastern and North-western sea areas as wind can be increase up to 50 kmph.
