There are diet fads, and then there are diet fads. Whilemany diets try their best to give you wholesomenutrition while restricting the calories, here are some crazy

and ridiculous diet fads that have come and gone and haveattracted their share of criticism, and of course - followers. Sure, these diets may have resulted in weight loss. But are any of themremotely healthy? Ah, that’s another story altogether. Here'slooking at the 5 most ridiculous diet fads in recent times, and yeswe are pointing fingers...

1) Vodka anyone?‘The drinking man’s diet’ - a weight loss book published by

Robert Cameron in 1964 got a lot of flack from experts of that era.The diet was quite simple. Low carbs, high proteins, and as muchWhiskey, Gin, Vodka or any other distilled liquor as you like. Theextremely low carbohydrates and the high alcohol content willlead to a thinner waistline and also liver disease in all probability.

2) Cabbage, cabbage, even more cabbageThe cabbage soup diet is exactly that: Cabbage soup and

nothing else for 7 days. Apart from the fact that it is a totallyunbalanced diet, once you lose water weight in the 7 days (whichyou will of course), it will come right back once you go off it. It isa popular one with the celebrities, who want to shed the poundsquickly. Is it healthy? We think not.

3) A great fruit that grape fruitThe grape fruit diet is again pretty simple to follow. Grape

fruit has fat burning properties “apparently”.So all you have to do is eat a grapefruit before every meal

and you are good to go. Sounds too good to be true? Maybebecause you haven’t read the fine print, which says meals haveto be tiny – like 800 calories a day. Thanks Grape fruit, a big helpyou’ve been!

4) Pass me the lemonade pleaseThis one is popularized by Beyonce Knowles. This diet

requires users to drink six to 12 glasses of lemonade laced with

5 Ridiculous Diet Fads

cayenne pepper (Lal mirch) and maple syrup. If you’re still hungry,no problem, you can have another glass, and then? Yet anotherone. Beyonce admitted that she lost 18 pounds in 10 days withthe diet (WOW!) But she put all of it right back on when she gotback to eating normally. Celebrities are human too you know. They have weighty issues just like us.

5) Hey babyThis one’s truly my favourite. Reese Witherspoon, cute as

she may be, swears by it. For a quick weight loss fix, just eatbaby food. Yummy. You can maintain a very healthy lifestyle byconsuming just 600 calories a day.

You really can. Assuming you are a baby, of course. Whydid we highlight these 5 ridiculous diet fads? To stop the insanity!Focus on changing your lifestyle to a healthy and active one forlong-term weight management instead of experimenting with sillydiet fads.

Choosing jeans according to your figure type

Both women and men like wearing them. They are appropriate for a visit to a local grocery as well as aposh party or red carpet occasion. The most interesting thing about jeans is that they were first madefor men to wear to work and much later ladies adopted them for their wardrobes. Nowadays there are

plenty of fashion models created especially for women. They are nice, durable and comfortable. And what isthe most pleasant about them is that jeans are now made for all women figure types. I wrote this post toexplain how jeans should be selected to suit your particular figure well. Tall women should pay attention tolong or extra long jeans of light hues. Low rise is the best. Jeans may be flared, straight, rolled up, relaxed fitor boot-cut. Steer clear of short jeans, cigarette style jeans and the ones that are narrowed to the bottom. When purchasing jeans search for pairs with ‘For tall women’ or ‘Extra long’ labels. You may also want to buya pair with hemline that needs to be shaped so that you completed them according to your own choice.

CONSUME LESSA recent study claims a calorie-restricted diet in which participants ate up to 25per cent less than they did normally, reduced overall cholesterol, triglyceride lev-els and blood pressure. But this doesn't mean you go into a starvation mode. Toavoid vitamin deficiencies, make sure that whatever you are eating is nutritionallydense. Avoid simple sugars, make sure your protein intake is sufficient and don'tforget to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Steer clear of supplements, packaged andcanned food; they do nothing to contribute to your health.TURN TO YOGAFor time immemorial, Ayurveda has stressed the

need for yoga in our daily lives. Yoga'sm i n d b o d y - b rea th i ng

cises strengthen and balance the immune system, stimulate it and effectively de-stroy sickness-causing microbes. Practising yoga regularly can reverse severalrisk factors for hear t disease, such as high blood pressure and sugar.STRENGTHEN FRIENDSHIPSPeople who have a strong social suppor t system have a healthy immune systemand are less likely to succumb to inflammatory disease. Having no close friendsincreases the risk of having a first-time hear t attack by about 50 per cent. Tomaximise the benefits of your social network, meet them over lunch or go shoppingtogether, or chat with them over the phone. But avoid e-mail or Facebook unlessyour folks stay in a different country or city.UP YOUR GARLIC INTAKEThe benefits of the benign spice — garlic — are known to be abundant. It reducesblood pressure and cholesterol levels, fights off staph infections and acts as apowerful antioxidant. Recently, a study found that people who regularly consumegarlic cut their number of sick days in half. Eat it raw or cooked, but avoid garlicsupplements.TAKE A COLD SHOWER

While taking a warm water bath ensures a relaxed sleep, research shows turningthe shower nozzle cold can improve blood circulation, strengthen skin, boost your immune system, improve your mood and rejuvenate yourbody. The ideal length of a cold shower is five minutes, and its best toenter and exit the cold stream in 30-second intervals. In fact, a study ofswimmers in Berlin suggested that exposure to ice-cold water elevatedlevels of glutathione, one of the body's natural, stay-well antioxidants.

8 THINGS THAT'LL NEVER GET YOU SICK

How to care for your hair and skin this HoliHOLI IS NOT THE BEST TIME FOR ONE'SSKIN AND HAIR. THE DRY 'GULAL' ANDCOLOURS ARE GENERALLY NOT DERIVEDFROM NATURAL SOURCES AND MAY ENDUP DAMAGING YOUR SKIN AND HAIR.HERE'S A GUIDE TO DAMAGE-FREE SKINAND HAIR THIS HOLI.

These days, Holi colours contain chemicals, shiny particles ofmica and even lead, which not only irritate the skin, butaccumulate on the scalp. Follow these steps to ensure that

you have a safe, fun and memorable Holi:- Apply a sunscreen and rich moisturiser at least 20 minutes beforegoing out to play with colours. Use a sunscreen of SPF 15 andabove. If your skin is prone to pigmented patches, select one with ahigher SPF.- Apply copious amounts of olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil ormustard oil on your face and body.- Massage your hair well from scalp to hair tips with coconut, oliveor castor oil. This oil gives your hair a protective covering andshields it from harmful chemicals, dust and dirt. This will help thecolours come off easily later.- Cover your lips with a thick coat of lip balm to protect them fromcolour damage.- You can use light daytime make-up. Touch up your eyes with aneye-pencil or kajalstick and use a lip gloss or balm. However, if you intend to playrigorously with colours, try not to wear any make-up.- Protect your nails from the colours by using transparent nail polish. If you have long nails, you can use it on the underside of the nails aswell. One could also use nail shields that strengthen the nails whileprotecting them.- While playing, try to ensure a safe and skin-friendly Holi by using

herbal or natural colours: henna or spinach (green), turmeric ormarigold flowers (yellow), tomatoes or beetroot or kumkum (red) &tea leaves (brown). After playing with the colours, remember not touse harsh soaps to get rid of colours from your skin. Do not washyour face with soap immediately, because soap is alkaline and causesfurther dryness. Instead, use a cleansing cream or lotion, likecleansing milk which soothes the skin while cleansing. Massage onthe skin and then wipe off with moist cotton wool.Tip:Sesame seed (til) oil can also be used to remove colours by massagingit on face andbody. This not only helps to remove the colours, but gives addedprotection to the skin- While washing your hair, first rinse them with plenty of plain waterto wash away the dry colours and tiny particles of mica. Apply amild natural shampoo which deeply cleanses the hair without causingany further damage. Work it into the hair with your fingers, massagethe scalp gently and rinse thoroughly with water again.- Add the juice of a lemon to a mug of water and use it as a last rinse. This helps to restore the acid-alkaline balance of the scalp. Beer canalso be used as a last rinse to soften and condition the hair.- You can also apply a hair pack made of fenugreek seeds, amlapowder, boiled shikakai powder and water. Another homemade recipefor hair pack that works is a mixture of henna powder, four teaspoonsof lemon juice and curd. Apply on hair and wash after an hour.

HOW TO DEAL WITH SUNBURNCool it downThe first thing you need todo when your skin startspeeling is to take a coldshower. Cold water willsoothe your skin. Once youtake a bath, pat dry your skin, avoid rubbing it. Rubbing will peel your skin all the more.MoisturiseAfter taking a shower, moisturise your skin with a lotion. You can go for a lotion that is speciallymade for sunburned skin. Grab a pair of scissors and carefully cut that segment and apply anti-bacterialointment on your skin.Use sunscreenPrevention is better than cure. Do not forget to apply sunscreen when you are going out in the sun; also do not miss out on hidden areas. This will prevent your skin from getting damaged in the first place.
