A note from the Administrators:
It is hard to believe we are approaching the first nine weeks' tests so quickly. We want to thank you for sharing Cobra Chatter with our community, because it appears that many are relying on the information to help them plan each week. It is our desire to work diligently to keep these lines of communication open for all of our stakeholders. Please make sure that you are communicating with your child's teacher through email or notes home, so that we can be best prepared for the upcoming end of our first nine weeks. We are looking forward to the rest of our year being as successful as our start has been. We encourage you to contact an administrator at Wesson Attendance Center if you ever have any questions or concerns. Your child is very important to us.
Counselor’s Corner: There is an attached schedule of ACT test dates for
this school year. The Copiah County Ministerial Alliance Scholarship applications are available in Ms. Allen's office. December 3rd is the deadline to submit all application material. See Ms. Allen for additional information. Co-Lin's Taylor Presidential Scholarship applications are available in Ms. Allen's
office. The deadline to submit all application materials is February 1, 2019. The selection committee will consider the following criteria in the selection process:
Minimum 3.0 GPA
Recommended 25 ACT(minimum)
Difficulty level of courses
Financial need
Leadership/Involvement in activities in high school Essay (500 word minimum)
Honors/Awards/Recognitions
Community Service Activities
Other abilities/special talents
Interview
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) will be given October 24th. Any juniors interested in taking
this exam need to bring the $16 fee to Ms. Allen. Study guides will be issued upon payment. Only 20 exams are available. If you have any questions please
contact Ms. Allen at [email protected] or call the high school office.
The Wallflowers Creative Writing Club will meet every Thursday during break and after school in Mr. Love’s room.
Student Council Organization is sponsoring a Blood Drive- October 11. You must be 16 years or older to donate. Beta Club members can receive 1 service hour for donating blood.

Library News: School Reading Fair – October 23, 2018 Book Fair – October 29-November 2, 2018
The 2018 Wesson Attendance Center Reading Fair will take place on
Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Set-up will begin at 8 a.m. in the high school libraries, or both libraries if necessary. Projects may be picked up at the end of
the day that Thursday so that classes can view the projects. All first place projects will move on to the District Competition, which will be held in Crystal
Springs.
Please make sure that you read the guidelines carefully. Please make sure boards are the correct size, and make sure projects do not extend past the
borders. Projects may be disqualified because of failure to follow these guidelines. If you have any questions concerning the Fair or the guidelines,
please feel free to call Mrs. Armistad or Mrs. Lockhart at 601-643-2221.

October is HIGH ATTENDANCE MONTH!! Elementary classes that have perfect attendance for the week will receive a special treat on Fridays. Elementary classes that have maintained perfect attendance for 4 weeks will receive a Fall Party on Friday, November 2nd. Parents, the students are excited about this event so please help them with perfect attendance by scheduling any necessary appointments late in the afternoon so they are not counted absent. Remember, students must be at school 63% of the academic day to be counted present.

Dear Parents:
Your child has expressed an interest in being a contestant in the Wesson Attendance Center Beauty Pageant.
The Junior High/High School Beauty Pageant will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 beginning at
6:00 p.m. The pageant location is Copiah-Lincoln Community College Rea Auditorium. Listed below are the
beauty pageant guidelines that all contestants must adhere to:
1. Formal attire is required.
2. Entry fee is $40.00 and is due October 5. After October 5, the fee is $50.00 --- ENTRY FEE IS
NON-REFUNDABLE.
3. Most Photogenic Entry is $10.00 --- this is a separate award and separate division --- Most
Photogenic Entry fee is due by October 6 and Most Photogenic pictures are due by November 1.
4. Admission fee is $5.00.
5. Contestants will enter the pageant without charge – all other attendees must pay the admission fee. No
parent passes will be given out.
6. NO parent is allowed backstage.
7. Johnny Smith Photography will take pictures the night of the pageant. Picture forms with prices will
be sent home. This is a courtesy provided by the yearbook staff but not a requirement. After the
pageant, ALL WINNERS MUST GET THEIR PICTURE MADE FOR THE YEARBOOK AND
NEWSPAPER.
8. Numbers will be drawn randomly and there will absolutely be no swapping of numbers once drawn.
9. If we have enough participation for each grade 7-12, we will choose beauties and a most beautiful
from each grade and each grade will be a separate division. If there is not enough participation in
each grade, the combining of grades will be done for a division --- Please note…if your child is
crowned Most Beautiful, she will not be eligible to participate the following year unless she will be a
Senior the following year. a. The girls crowning for this year’s pageant are:
i. Allyson Sullivan --- 7th grade division
ii. Baylee Newman – 8th grade division
iii. Avery Kyle --- 9th grade division
iv. Shelbi Maxwell --- 10th grade division
v. Melody Ashley --- 11th grade division (does have the option as a senior to participate
according to the guidelines above) vi. Jasmine King --- 12th grade division (also any other division in case of absence of another of last
year’s winners) 10. The auditorium will be open for practice on Thursday, November 15 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. This
practice is mandatory. You must see Mrs. Lisa Smith if you have a conflict.
If you would like for your child to participate, please fill out the form below, attach entry fee and return form
and fee by Friday, October 5, 2018 to Mrs. Lisa Smith in Room 77. No forms will be accepted without entry
fee attached. Attached you will find a Bio Sheet, please fill out and return with form and entry fee.

9. Aurianna Vaughn and Preston Middleton, last year’s Senior Most Beautiful and Most Handsome, will
crown all beau contestants so all current boys are eligible to participate.
10. Beau contestants will not be required to do individual modeling. Beau contestants in each division
will walk out as a group to a “fun” song and will be called out one-by-one for judging purposes.
11. At the time of judging, beau contestants MAY do something fun to catch the judges’ attention --- for
example, throw a rose, hold a sign that says call me, etc. Make sure you choose in good taste what
you want to do on stage – this is still a formal event and it needs to be something fun, but
appropriate!!! NOTHING VULGAR that would embarrass you, your parents, or the school.
Judges would not think it is funny!
