winning songwriter, storyteller and performer. Rivar will pres-ent a magical evening of story and song at theRiver Highlands Ranch and Vineyards inSmartsville from 5:00pm until 9:30pm. Show times are 8:00am to 9:00pm on Saturday and 8:00am to3:00pm on Sunday. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, which coversadmission to both show days and children under twelve are free.There is a $5.00 fairground parking fee.

Congratulations to the Dan Casillas Family of Penn Valley onbeing named Family of the Yearby the Nevada County Fairs Boardof Directors. The Board chose the

Casillas Family because of theirongoing participation in theNevada County Fair and theirongoing commitment and sup-port of Nevada County agricultur-al youth programs. Dan and wifeBeth have been active in the Fairand youth agriculture programssince they moved to Nevada County in 1995. Their children,Emmalee and Manuel, have also been actively involved in theFair for many years. The Casillas Family was honored at openingceremonies of the Nevada County Fair.

Speaking of the just completed Fair, Huell Howser, pictured withFairgrounds General Manger Sandy Wood, of the PBS program

Californias Gold spent a day at theFair sampling various foods on TreatStreet and interviewing individualsfrom the various non-profit organiza-

tions. Howser also spent time filmingthe Fairs Gold Path, the tall pine trees,and the Draft Horse monument at thefront of the Fairgrounds. Howsers visitto the Nevada County Fair will be oneof 12 episodes of his new PBS series

entitled Californias Golden Fairs which is expected to air nextspring.

through time with AirAligned, featuring vocalist Craig Thomas,

Sept 11: 44th Annual Constitution Day Parade, 2:00pm,

Downtown Nevada City. A tradition since 1967 this celebration is

reportedly the oldest and largest Constitution observance in

Western America. Organizers expect about 100 parade entries.
