Port Canaveral Memorial Day Weekend Cruise
May 23-25 April 27, 2014 UPDATE: As of today, we have four
ECSA boats that have made their slip reservations at
Ocean Club. The long holiday weekend is sneaking
up quickly, so don’t delay – Reserve Your Slip Now!
Join us for a long, relaxing Memorial Day Weekend
cruise to Port Canaveral. Last year we had such a great
time and turn out at the Ocean Club Marina that we de-
cided to do it again. Spend a day sailing offshore in the
beautiful turquoise waters of the Canaveral shoreline or
enjoy a day at the pool while listening for the sound of
the cruise ship horns signaling their departures.
A limited number of slips are available. To make your
reservations, call Ocean Club Marina, 930 Mullet Road,
Port Canaveral, 321-783-9001, or reserve online at
www.oceanclubmarina-pc.com. Transient Slip Rate:
$2.25/foot plus $6/day power for 30amp ($10/day for
50amp). FLOATING DOCKS!! Rate includes water, inter-
net and use of bathroom/shower facilities, clubhouse,
pool and Tiki bar. The marina has very nice facilities with
an elegant, two-story clubhouse that feels more like a
country club than a marina. There should be room for all
of us at Ocean Club (if need be, we can share slips) -
there is back up dockage available at the neighboring
marinas (Port Canaveral Yacht Club and Cape Canaver-
al Marina). There is no anchorage available in the port.
On Saturday evening there will be a pot luck dinner at
the outdoor tiki bar / bbq area of the Ocean Club facility.
They have grills, tables and chairs available for our use.
Please bring your folding chairs as well so that we can
accommodate everyone. Susan and I will have the grills
hot and ready to go!
For our Sunday get-together, the Ocean Club is going to
provide a BBQ meal and drinks – bring a side dish to
share
For breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday, we’ll do an in-
formal gathering/food-sharing at the Tiki Hut. (Breakfast
start time about 8:00 am (ish!!)).
Please let us know if you are planning to make the cruise
(by boat or car) so we can make appropriate reserva-
tions/accommodations. Hope to have a good turn out
and look for-ward to seeing everyone!
Rick and Susan (and Angel)

EAST COAST SAILING ASSOCIATION
General Membership Meeting
April 8, 2015
Board Members Present: Page Proffitt, Rick Hushla, Clay
Showen, Tom O’Shea, and Jennifer Clendinen
Elected Governor(s) Present: Bob Wiley, Don Theriault
and Dave Cordial
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at
7:00pm by Commodore Page Proffitt.
New Members- Applications for membership were received
for new members Will and Patty Miller and returning mem-
bers Marion and Joanne Terry. Both applications were mo-
tioned and accepted. Members were welcomed into the club.
TREASURER/SECRETARY REPORTS: The Secretary’s
report as published in the April Foot, Tack & Clew was ac-
cepted and carried. A motion to approve the February Treas-
urer’s report as published in the Foot, Tack & Clew was mo-
tioned and carried.
REAR COMMODORE Tom O’Shea: The Titusville cruise
has been cancelled due to lack of hosts. Bob and Cherie
Baird will be hosting a Kentucky Derby party that weekend
and have invited ECSA members to come in lieu of the
cruise. Dave and Nancy Keane are currently in the Baha-
mas. We hope to hear from them soon.
Jesse and Carmen Camp are hosting the Sebastian Inlet
cruise on April 18-19.
Eilleen Kiesel: The St. Patrick’s Day cruise was fun. She
shared a photo of ECSA’s very own Florida leprechaun (i.e.
Simon). Three groups came by boat. It was a great time.
Don and Joann Theriault: Nine boats attended the Melbourne
Air Show cruise. The planes flew right overhead. There
were more on Sunday. It was a good show and a great after-
noon to be out on the water. The view from the anchorage
was great.
Joe Coleman: - Six boats plus a “stranger” boat came to the
Squid Lips cruise. There were 24 for dinner and weather was
good. Joe then introduced guest (and tonight’s speaker) Jul-
ian Crisp a.k.a. Sparman. Chris and Liz Caulder are in town.
VICE COMMODORE Rick Hushla: Only two boats have
made reservations at the marina for the Memorial Day cruise.
Signup sheets are on the back table. Ocean Club Marina
wants us there and will be providing dinner for us in the club-
house. When you call the marina reservations, mention that
you are willing to share a slip. Slips are limited so make your
reservations!
Tom O’Shea: The Ships store is open. Buy something!
Cherie Baird: Kentucky Derby party will be May 2 from 3-
8pm. Bring an appetizer. They will provide mint juleps.
Their dock can accommodate two other boats. There will be
games. Derby attire is encouraged!
COMMODORE Page Proffitt: An email about the cruise
will be sent out. Please let Cherie know if you will be at-
tending. Many people from the club will be gone during that
weekend.
Dean White: The MYC Marker 21 cruise went well. They
had 11 boats for the day for the Easter Egg hunt with 2
spending the night. He’s trying to encourage cruising at
MYC every other month. The MYC regattas are coming up.
Wine and cheese fleet will be next weekend- $15 for dinner
on the 25th. If you are interested, come on down.
The Sebastian Inlet cruise on April 18-19 is the next cruise.
Jesse Camp will have a grill for dinner and bring a side to
share. We will have a pavilion and can go out to the sand-
bar during day. It will be the same day as the MYC small-
boat regatta.
Maryann O’Shea: Nancy Keane will be doing the May and
June newsletters. Send anything for those newsletters to
Nancy.
Eileen Kiesel: Hospitality- We don't have to get fancy to
supply snacks for the meetings. Cookies are fine.
Paige Proffitt: Chip Worster has had a minor stroke over
Easter weekend. Get better soon, Chip!
Lynde Edwards has given up the Advertising position. Rick
Hushla is taking it over until we find somebody to do it.
Somebody please step up! See someone on the board if
you would consider taking it on. One person doesn't have
to do it all. Others WILL help and have already made con-
tacts.
Bob Wiley: Directories have been sent out!. A couple of
mistakes were made and an email will be sent out with cor-
rections. The 50th Anniversary committee has some mem-
bers signed up to help. Bob will send an email as to what
has been done so far regarding the celebration. There
needs to be a meeting to come up with a budget.
Joe Coleman: The Titusville marina will have a flea market
on April 18th. Joe and Chris will be there in the morning for
a membership drive. Tables are free so members can sell
stuff as well.
Old Business: Karen Coleman won't be at next month’s
meeting. Dave Cordial will man the back table to hand out
name tags and do 50/50 tickets.
Del Weise: Introduced his guest, Sean Freeman, who came
with an application for membership. He is a new sailor with
a Pearson 26.
Joe Coleman: Clay Showen has been working hard to
streamline our expenses. AND Dave Cordial saved us
about $1000 in insurance. Thank you both!
The 50/50 drawing was won by Jennifer Clendinen.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by Jennifer Clendinen, Secretary

Sebastian Cruise Review April 18-19
Jesse and Carmen Camp
The Sebastian Inlet cruise was a beautiful
windy day that had the threat of thunder and
lightning which was a concern that fortunately
did not show its ugly head. The attendees were
Kevin and Cindy Welsh on their Key West runa-
bout, Bill Greer on Corsair, Tom and Mary Ann
O'Shea' on Southern Comfort, Jesse and Car-
men Camp , John and Lynda Geraci by car. We
grilled, sipped, and enjoyed. Let's hope for bet-
ter weather next year.

Squid Lips/CAPTF Cruise Re-
view
April 28-29
Karen and Joe Coleman
We had a surprisingly low ECSA turnout this year
for our Squid Lips/CAPTF benefit cruise, but the
weather was good and those of us that attended
had a fine time under the umbrellas on the sandy
beach or in the air-conditioned dining room. Once
again Squid Lips donated 5% of the proceeds from
food sales between 5:00 and 8:00 to the Child
Abuse Prevention Task Force.
Waving blue banners from their rigging to show sup-
port for CAPTF were Joe and Karen Coleman on
Alibi, Don and Joanne Theriault on Impulse, Tom
and Mary Ann on Southern Comfort, and Clay and
Patty Showen and Bill Samples on Lone Star. Arriv-
ing by land yacht were our trusty photographer Bob
Wiley, Page and Claudia Proffitt with Gladys, Dave
and Gail Cordial, John and Loretta Schnitzius, Jes-
se and Carmen Camp, Chip and Louise Worster,
Eileen Kiesel, Simon Koumjian, and Brenda Merch-
berger.
The Showens generously provided breakfast on
Lone Star for those cruisers who did not have other
Palm Sunday morning obligations.
