Is this safe to eat?

Was it sustainably sourced?

Where is my shipment?

Contamination poses a potential threat of

• Identify / record the food and its components

• Identify / record relevant locations and parties

• Identify / record treatments and processes

• Record movements of products

- What / from whom >< What / where / how >< What / to

whom

• As required by use and scope

- Food safety data requirements and records differ from those

for organic products, fair trade and carbon footprint

- All might be viewed across the whole supply chain

How to achieve traceability & effect recall

Traceability benefits

• Improve consumer safety

• Season-less supermarkets

• Reduce food loss and waste

• Provide consumers with in-demand information

Increasing request for traceability

• Regulations or trading partner requirements in

many countries

• Driven by the need to increase patient safety,

prevent counterfeit product entering the market

• For shared, enhanced supply chain control

to communicate important

information about the harvest,

sustainability measures or

SSCC - Serial Shipping Container Code….

- identifies logistic unit, item of any composition

established for transport and/or storage which

needs to be managed through the supply chain

GSIN - Global Shipment Identification Number

- identifies a virtual grouping of logistic units that

are sent from one supplier to one customer and

relate to one PO

GTIN - Global Trade Item Number …

- identifies any item or service that might be priced,

ordered or invoiced at any point in the supply chain

The Global Language of Business

18

GS1 standards are

the global language

of business—a language for identifying,

capturing and sharing information

automatically and accurately, so

that anyone who receives that

information can understand it,

no matter who or where they are.

GS1 launched a new version of the Global Traceability Standard to help drive trust in supply chains

The Global Traceability Standard (GTS2)

19

The new Global Traceability Standard provides trading partners with:

• The needed framework to increase transparency across today’s complex supply

chains

• Interoperability, allowing them to act as one digitally connected supply chain

GTS2 puts traceability data at the centre of supply chains, allowing them to

proactively work together. It fully leverages EPCIS, a GS1 standard, for sharing

traceability data between trading partners about the physical movement and

status of products in the supply chain.
