Sanity at Santa Time
Be still and know that I am God.
Important words, but never more so than during the Christmas season. Let’s gather for a time of peace during the Christmas craziness. Each Saturday morning in Advent
(November 29, December 6, 13, 20) we’ll meet at the church at 8 am for coffee/hot tea/hot chocolate and a time of silent prayer and reflection using the book, Simply Wait: Cultivating Stillness in the Season of Advent. Register in the Fellowship Hall (or by email, [email protected]) by November 16; cost of the book is $13.
Curious About
CENTRALongmont?
Thinking About Joining?
Join Pastor David and members of Central’s leadership for dinner, Friday evening, November 21, at 6:00 pm.
An opportunity to learn how we understand what it means to love and follow Jesus. No pressure, no hype. Ask questions, eat food, and see if the call God’s placed on our lives might be the call God’s placed on yours.
RSVP by November 14 to [email protected] or 303-776-6833.

MONTHLY MISSION PROJECT
November 16
“Operation Christmas Child”
As the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind,
Operation Christmas Child uses gift-filled shoeboxes
to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy
children around the world.
CENTRALongmont’s kids will be packing gift-filled
shoeboxes on Sunday, November 16. You can help by
donating items for the shoeboxes or making a cash
donation to purchase items and cover shipping for
the boxes (make checks payable to Central
Presbyterian Church). For a list of items go to
www.centralongmont.net, click on Operation
Christmas Child on the Ministries page.
UPDATE ON DIRECTOR OF CHRISTIAN
EDUCATION SEARCH
We are getting closer to hiring a DCE. Skype interviews
with the candidates will begin the week of November 3.
You can view the full job description on the church
website. Please continue to keep the Search Committee
(Elder Brenda Holt Harris, chair, Elder Jason Kruse, Laurie
Basil, Kate LeCerf, and Mike Flynn) in prayer as they
discern the individual God has called to leadership of our
education ministry for all ages.
Begins January 4, 2015
Thanks to Jesus, there’s a lot of red ink in the Gospels: Jesus’ words about living right, none more important than Matthew 5-7, the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus said them…Jesus meant them…we have to understand them. This winter, David will preach through the most important stretch of red ink in Scripture.

WARMING CENTER
CENTRALongmont in partnership with Agape Family Services and The Journey church provides an emergency warming center for the homeless in our community. Volunteers to man the warming center come from churches all across Longmont and we need your help.
We would like to see more volunteers from CENTRAL. If you would like more info about what volunteering entails contact one of CENTRAL’s Site Coordinators—Vicki DeZuba ([email protected]), Dave Ferrey ([email protected]), Donna Ferrey ([email protected]), Brenda Harris ([email protected]) or Evelyn Maher ([email protected]).
In the past the Best Western was providing laundry service for us free of charge, however, they no longer do their laundry in-house. We are also looking for volunteers willing to pick up bedding at the church as needed and launder this bedding.
If you are interested in volunteering at the warming center, are able to do laundry, or are able to provide snacks and supplies, please contact Donna Ferrey at [email protected] or 303-776-6833.
The St. Vrain Singers will be joining the Longmont Chorale on their December concert, “Joyful and Triumphant!”. The concert will be Sunday,
December 7 at 3:00 pm at LifeBridge Christian Church. The concert will also feature the Apollo Chamber Brass and the winners of the Chorale’s Young Artist Vocal Competition. Tickets are available at the Longmont Chorale’s website (longmontchorale.org) or from any Chorale member. We hope you’ll come and hear these kids! For more information please contact Lee Smoot at [email protected]

COMMUNITY GROUPS
We need to live our faith. It’s one thing to know what you believe—to recite doctrine and quote Scripture. It’s another to put that knowledge in service to how we live. Day-in and day-out. And good as it can be to live it for ourselves and our family and friends, better still is to live it in and for community. That’s what community groups are about. People—twelve or so—some of whom are followers of Jesus and members of Central, others who don’t hang their hat in any church, and still others who aren’t entirely sure about this Jesus guy at all. What they have in common is a commitment to doing life together, discovering what it means to live your faith, and, in the process, making Longmont a little better place to call home.
Community groups meet weekly or biweekly for fellowship, learning, and mission. They’re made-up of all ages and types of people. They meet in homes, restaurants and bars, and parks. You’re welcome to visit any group to see if it clicks for you or, because we’re forming new groups on a regular basis, explore the opportunities of being part of a start-up.
Our Community Groups Include:
“Go Now” is a very diverse group of friends who love and support each other unconditionally. They are interested in expanding their missional outreach and supporting more needs. Currently their mission focus is Boulder County Care Connect. They meet Tuesdays at 4 pm at Left Hand Brewery. For more info contact John or Evelyn Maher at [email protected] or 303-827-9843.
“King’s Team” is a group dedicated to growing and sharing garden vegetables, and leading monthly sing-a-longs at Cinnamon Park Assisted Living. They meet twice monthly. For more info or for meeting dates/times, contact Marv Van Peursem at [email protected] or 303-775-0734.
“Latino Ministry” - Their mission is to create and strengthen opportunities to serve the immigrant community in order to promote strong Christian families, raise Christian leaders, provide Christian discipleship, encourage community involvement and support multicultural unity. They meet for dinner and worship at 5 pm the second and fourth Sundays of the month. For more info contact Eddie Mendoza at 956-458-6307 or [email protected]

Our sister congregation, Chawama Presbyterian
Church, in inner-city Lusaka, Zambia - Living the
Gospel in the midst of the poor, most of whom have
been ravaged by HIV/AIDS, Chawama has established
prayer houses throughout the community, provided
micro loans for small business startups, planted a new
congregation, and staffs a Home Health Care program
for people with AIDS. Perhaps most importantly,
Chawama runs a school for children orphaned by AIDS.
For the vast majority of the children, this school is their
only opportunity to receive an education. Central has
been blessed to come along side our brothers and
sisters in Chawama, providing prayer and material
support. We send mission teams on a regular basis to
work with the Chawama church and gain a better
understanding of how we can support their work. Just
as importantly, the Chawama church has taught us what
it means to serve rather than be served: living joyfully
the Great Commandment that we love others as God
loves us. Chawama Presbyterian embodies what it
means to be a missional/incarnational church. For more
info go to www.ccapzambia.org/index.htm or

Session Highlights
At the October 28, 2014 Session meeting, the following
issues were addressed and actions taken:
2015 Stewardship plans are being finalized – Phil is
working on a Thankfulness video to be used during
the Stewardship program.
There will not be an Alternative Christmas Market this
year – we have no one to organize and take
leadership of the program this year.
Breanna Dreiling has been offered the position of
Church Treasurer effective November 1, 2014. LeeAnn
Fennell has been very helpful in training Breanna.
Thanks LeeAnn for your help.
The search for a DCE (Director of Christian Education)
is progressing well- we have received approximately
two dozen applications which have been narrowed
down to 2 or 3 promising candidates.
The sale of the annex is nearing finalization- the
closing for the sale is scheduled for November 17.
Elder Ginger Saul was authorized by the Session to
sign the necessary papers on behalf of the church.
Session approved building a new larger storage shed
to house several items (e.g. snow removal equipment,
lawn tools, the barbecue, and materials that support
maintaining the church property) that are currently
stored in the annex building. The cost for the building
will be taken from the proceeds of the annex sale.
The congregation will again be offered the
opportunity to help provide Christmas for children of
families who might otherwise have none. More details
will be forthcoming from the Mission committee.

Mercy means kindness or help, a disposition to
be compassionate, and benevolence. We hope
to show God’s love to our church family in
times of personal crisis or hardship through
prayer, community service referral/member
service referral and financial assistance. The
Mercy Fund is open to members of
CENTRALongmont, as well as to regular
attenders.
If you have a need to use The Mercy Fund, you
may begin the process by contacting the front
office, the pastor or any active deacon. A
deacon will then reach out to you to begin the
confidential application process.
If you would like to support The Mercy Fund,
you may designate The Mercy Fund in the
memo line of your check made out to Central
Presbyterian Church. Grocery Certificates may
also be designated for the fund. You can also
donate your talents by signing up for the
CENTRALongmont Member Service Bank. This
bank is a list of members who are willing to use
their skills and gifts to help out other members
in time of great need.
Thank you for your support in helping the
diaconate care for those of our congregation.
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will
find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks
finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be
opened. Matt 7:7-8
