Plants are very useful to us and we get most of our food plants give us vegetables, fruits, cereals and pulses.

Plants also give us coffee, tea, sugar, oil and spices.

We get food from different parts of plants. We eat roots, leaves, stems, flowers and

fruits of plants from plants.

VEGETABLES

We get vegetables from plants. Some vegetables are available throughout

the year. Some vegetables are available in one

season only. Some vegetables are beetroot, spinach,

turnip and cauliflower.

Root vegetables are plant roots used as vegetables.

While botany distinguishes true roots such as tuberous roots and taproots from non-roots such as tubers, rhizomes, corms, and bulbs (though some contain both taproot and hypocotyl tissue, making it difficult to tell some types apart); in ordinary, agricultural, and culinary use, "root vegetable" can apply to all these types.

Vegetables which are grown primarily for the consumption of their leafy parts, either raw or cooked. Many plants with leaves that are consumed in small quantities as a spice like oregano, or for medicinal purposes like lime, or used in infusions like tea, are not included in this list.

Leaf vegetables, also called potherbs, greens, vegetable greens, leafy greens or salad greens, are plant leaves eaten as a vegetable, sometimes accompanied by tender petioles and shoots. Although they come from a very wide variety of plants, most share a great deal with other leaf vegetables in nutrition and cooking methods.

Plant stems are one part of plants that are eaten by humans. Most plants are made up of roots, stems, leaves, flowers, buds and produce fruits containing seeds. Humans most commonly eat the seeds (e.g. maize, wheat, coffee and various nuts), fruit (e.g. tomato), leaves (e.g. lettuce, spinach, and cabbage), or roots (e.g. carrots and beets), but humans also eat the stems of many plants (e.g. asparagus). There are also a few edible petioles (leaf stalks) such as celery, as well as some edible flowers.
