S ummer 2020 Greetings all,
David here with perhaps the shortest entry I’ve ever made in our newsletter. That’s because we wanted the
space to celebrate your wonderfully selfless efforts to help our senior neighbors in need through the COVID-19
pandemic. During this state of emergency, we have met the increased need for home delivered meals, not missing
a single delivery, thanks to community members from all walks of life stepping up to volunteer in our kitchen and
to deliver meals. You also made our continued service possible through your generous donations of face
coverings, hand sanitizer, ‘delivery trays’, and much needed funding. In 2019, we delivered a record 62,312 meals
for 294 homebound seniors. In 2020, as we strive to meet the essential task of helping seniors stay in their homes,
safe from the spread of the coronavirus, we are serving more meals than ever before. We are on pace to serve
9,000+ more meals this year than last. Thanks to you generously sharing your time, talent, & treasure, more of our
older adults are avoiding nursing homes and assisted living centers where the COVID-19 illness is proving most
dangerous for the elderly. Thank you for coming together to help our most vulnerable friends in this unique time.
With much thanks and appreciation,
David

Gregg Elementary School donated ‘Blizzard Bags’ of shelf stable food for our
seniors to have on hand in
case we are unable to
deliver fresh meals due to
inclement weather...or this
year, in case the pandemic
impacts our operations.

You Made Our Valentine’s Day Cake Sale a Success! Thank you to our talented volunteers for
helping bake and decorate the delicious cakes. Thanks to all who ordered the tasty treats as your des-
serts funded 372 freshly prepared hot meals for our senior neighbors in need!
Thanks to volun-
teer Mary Park &
her husband,
Mike, for donating
Valentine's Day
treat bags for our
seniors! You are
champions in the
fight against sen-
ior hunger and
isolation!
Making Valentine’s Day Special
One year ago, we
began delivering
personal sized
birthday cakes to
our seniors on
their special day.
Your donations
make it possible!
Thank you for
helping fight sen-
ior isolation.
Celebrating Birthdays, Thanks to You! Freshly Baked
Cookies to Mark
Memorial Day
Mother’s Day Personal Layer Cakes & Tea and Father’s Day Peanut Butter Fudge & Peanuts!
It’s not all treats! We serve nutritious meals everyday, here are a few ‘fan favorite’ salads:
Our fresh tossed green salads with home-
made dressing are a big hit.
Farfalle pasta salad, good
for you and fun to say, too.
Green pea salad is a deli-
cious way to get more fiber.
Carrot salad...oh, wait,
those are carrot cakes.

Thank you to all who donated cloth face cover-
ings for the seniors we serve and the volunteers
who serve them! Special thanks to Angelea Col-
lins for the hundreds of masks donated through
her HS senior project, also to Naoko Sugimoto
Dingel for sewing ~200 masks, and to Karen Per-
reault, the first to respond to our need. They are
but three of the wonderful people who donated
face coverings to help protect our vulnerable
seniors from the novel coronavirus. Thanks to all!
When we adjusted our delivery method to accommo-
date social distancing, volunteer Larrisa Lima-Mazzali
and her husband made the first ‘delivery table’ (left) to
help with our process of leaving the meals, announcing
our arrival, stepping away at least six feet, and watch-
ing as the senior retrieves the meals. Shuhua & Duane
Lu soon followed with additional handmade tables.
Volunteer Molly Brown came through with dozens of
tray tables donated by her & her friends! All who
needed a ’delivery table’ now have one. Well done all!
Speaking of Larrisa, here she is helping prepare nearly 1,000 frozen
meals for our seniors to have on hand in case our service is interrupt-
ed by the virus. Thank you to all who volunteered many extra hours
to help prepare the frozen meals. A big thank you to the United Way
of the Southern Tier and to James Truxon for making these emergen-
cy meals possible by donating funds to purchase a much needed
commercial freezer. Speaking of emergency meals, thank you to the
Corning HS Food Hub and the Food Bank of the Southern Tier for do-
nating 190 boxes of non perishable emergency food items for our
seniors, and to the volunteers who delivered them to us!
Aniello's pizza, yay! Thank
you to Aniello's for donating
pizzas for our entrée on May
27th. It was a special treat for
the 154 homebound & frail sen-
iors we served that day. A taste
of Corning enjoyed by all!
You help keep our seniors and volunteers safe from the spread of the novel coronavirus!

Help Our Vulnerable Seniors with Tax-Free IRA Required Minimum Distribution Charitable Gifts
In December 2015, Congress passed a law allowing you to give up to $100,000 to charity directly from your individual
retirement account when you have reached 70 ½ without counting the distribution as taxable income. This type of
charitable gift is called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). Qualified Charitable Distributions count as IRA
distributions and can be used to satisfy all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution.
The charitable gift reduces your taxable income by the amount of the gift.
Allows you to benefit from charitable giving even if you don't normally itemize your deductions.
We recommend you consult with your tax advisor to learn more about this tax-free giving opportunity.

~ Your Legacy ~
You can help improve the lives of the homebound and frail in our community long after your lifetime. Leaving an estate gift through your will to Corning Meals on Wheels is a wonderful way to continue your generosity after you are gone. The following is a statement that may be used as a model in preparing a bequest or trust designation: I give, bequeath, and devise [the residue of my estate], or [__% of the residue of my estate], or [the sum of $___] to Corning Meals on Wheels, Inc., a nonprofit corporation whose address is 144 Cedar St. Corning NY 14830.
Corning Meals on Wheels recommends consulting with your attorney before making a charitable bequest.
Corning Meals on Wheels is a 501c3 non-profit organization properly registered with the New York State Charities Bureau, EIN 16-0912403.
